DA is a risk worth taking. I'm a big DA fan (got his autograph) and think he would be a great asset to this team. For all the people that don't like DA on the lakers think about it this way.....what other options are there? Vasachu-whatshisname? Tyron Lue is a good option, but he's not who you want starting. DA starting and Lue coming off the bench would actually mean we're pretty solid at the PG position. SG is obviously taken care of, SF- same. PF- Questionable in Kwame but lots of potential. Center is our only true weakness...but thats true for just about every team in the League other then PHO, DET, MIA, HOU. If the lakers could sign DA and Lue they'd be a pretty solid, and somehwat deep team next year.

Derek Anderson at point . . . I'd feel more comfortable if there was a "true point guard" in La but Kobe can take the ball up the court.

i think derek would be great for the team but the probable downside would be that he is still unfamiliar with the triangle..but i think he'll understand that
    quickly. hopefully.

the good side is that he only has two years left on his contract so i think it's a good thing..the lakers would still have a big cap room come 2007.

right now they only have kobe, sasha, wafer, and parker on the backcourt. they really need anderson. and i think he WILL sign with the lakers.

Derek Anderson has horrible handles... i guess nobody has really watched him dribble? if he faces a quick PG that can steal the ball with ease such as Iverson then he is in TROUBLE. he will get stripped more than a las vegas hooker.

What is the problem here? Can't you make one post without baiting. It's clearly against JBB Guidelines and Mel's Recent Announcement. Get it through your head, you've been warned in the past...baiting is not permitted here. Stop it, or you will be warned by someone with higher authority than me, such as a global mod or an admin.

Like its been said so many times, the TRI does require a pure point guard. Odom and Kobe will bring up the ball alot.

Not really, Ron Harper wasn't a pure PG.

Ron Harper and Brian Shaw were not pure PG's, yet they flourished in the triangle. It does not require a pure PG, Phil Jackson likes big, combo guards.

^ I think he meant to say "doesn't" need a pure pg too.

I've always liked Derek Anderson since I saw him with the Clips, and although I don't know how he'll work as the PG even in the triangle, I still think it's worth giving a shot. Either way, he is definitely an upgrade over Chucky.

He'll be an upgrade over....wait...who's our starting PG right now? Oh yeah! No one...Yeah I'd say DA is an upgrade over that.

^ exactly. no matter what he brings to the table, he will be better than the point guards we have now. my only concern with derek anderson, is his health. he is an injury prone. but like you said, he is a risk worth taking.

Anderson would be a excellent player to replace Caron Butler, being a guard/forward off the bench. Derek Anderson isn't a great ball handler as a point guard but I think he would be best suited for a bench shooting guard/small forward role.

I like Anderson, but mainly I like him because of how great an ambassador he is for the game with the attitude he approaches the community and his job with. There is your concern if you sign him being the Lakers for one he has failed to play 60 games the past two seasons so should he go down who will back him up? They will need to have a solid backup waiting to take the reigns from Anderson should he get hurt. He is still the best option on the free agent market for them at this point. A big veteran guard who will be embraced by Phil Jackson should he be signed. I think their is a better chance of him staying healthy in the Lakers organization then with the Blazers, because in the triangle the point guard is not always required to handle the ball.

Someone in this thread said that he has no handles, and would get stripped by players like Allen, and others. However, he only average 1.3 turnovers a game last season, and like has already been stated by trenchteam it is not really a requirement to be a great ball handling point guard in the triangle. People like Kobe, Lamar, and others will handle the ball as much as Anderson would. Should the Lakers sign him, and not bring in a Watson (unlikely) or Lue to back him up with the LLE I think this is a mild risk, because if an injury occurs they will be back were they are now. If they sign another decent point guard with the LLE then it is a pretty good move by getting Anderson to start.

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Anderson worked out for the Lakers on Monday and will visit Minnesota and Detroit before making a decision early next week about where to sign.

"We like that situation," Anderson's agent, Tony Dutt, said about the Lakers, "but there are others we like as well. We're still exploring the market."

The Lakers are in need of a ball-handling guard as well as a shooter, and Anderson fits the bill for both. They have $5 million to spend but appear adamant about splitting their midlevel exception on two players while Anderson would like the full amount.

Dutt said the Lakers also want to wait and see which players become available as the amnesty deadline approaches. Anderson, meanwhile, underwent a physical for the Lakers, which Dutt said resolved any questions about his health.

Anderson missed a combined 66 games the last two seasons and has battled back problems. </div>

I found this blurb about the latest on DA. The good news is he passed the physical, however money might become an issue. The Lakers only want to give up part of the MLE for DA, but he wants the entire amount.
