First, we have to wait something like 90 days to trade Fisher. Second, he is probably a BYC player, so it would be very hard to trade him this year. Third, I don't see any taker, who's willing to spend 6+ mils per year on back up PG...
Well, I agree that the money seems too much, but I imagine that Mully has an option on the last year, so look for the details to show it's a 5 year, 30 mil contract...which is still a lot! I like Fisher's game. He's extremely competitve, very good defender, career 37% from the 3-point line. He gives them a very different look from what they have at PG right now. Plus, he's got chanpionship experience, and he's generally done well in big games. He can split time with Speedy until Speedy gets injured, and NVE will either be traded, or play some at SG, with Pietrus playing more at SF. I think Mully knows what he's doing and I don't think the Warriors are done dealing.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Rudeezy:</div><div class="quote_post">I thought the Rockets were pursuing him as a starting PG?</div> I heard many teams were persuing Fisher. But, I doubt they would give 37 mils/6 years to him. And, that's probably the reason why we got Fisher.
Something big is in the works, I feel it, trust me, it's huge.......................................................at this point it seems almost half our salary goes to PG's, somethings coming down, Mully surely isn't this mentally challenged. Makes for some great speculation though doesn't it? A damp and NVE package?.............. will Fisher back up speedy? Or is there a Damp/Fisher trade on the horizon? This stuff drives me nuts, I'd love to have a break in code to Chris Mullin's cell phone conversations.
Do the Warriors really need him? They arleady had Claxton and NVE. I'm thinking, like I've seen in a lot of other posts, that Nick will be somehow involved in a sign and trade with someone. But, nonetheless, a good pick up for the Warriors. They get a point guard who is a great defender and someone who can spot up and shoot the ball with the best of em. Great pick up, but, whether it's necessary or not, we'll soon see.
If there's a NVE/Damp trade in the works, I'd have to think its with Dallas or part of a 3 or 4 team deal.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting wtwalker77:</div><div class="quote_post">Well, there goes the Warriors cap space for the next several years. I'm not real happy about this. Mullin got NVE and Robinson with the idea of having a lot of cap space next year. By signing Foyle and Fisher, he's essentially eliminated the possibility of the Warriors signing someone to a max deal next year. It seems like Mulln is having at least as much difficulty figuring out the direction to take this team as Saint did. Last year it was: get rid of the long term contracts, develop the core, and sign a big free agent in two years. This years it's: sign veterans to long term, moderately sized deals and persue a marquee player through a trade. They might as well make the Memphis trade now, because if they want to acquire a big time player its going to be through a trade, and Swift would be just as good a piece to trade as anyone else. Here's my problem with the Fisher signing though: who starts at pg? I'd prefer Speedy to start, but I don't understand why Fisher would sign here instead of a team like Houston unless he was promised the starting position. This just doesn't make a lot of sense.</div> I agree with ya man. Whats up with this?? I'm getting tired of season after season of retarded acquisitions. Fellow warriors fans, we have one of the hardest teams to stay positive about. But its all good, one day we'll own this league and watch the bandwagoners hop on. I don't think its coming soon though but its nice to see lotsa you positive thinkers. I'm just not one of em when ish like this goes down. But keep ya heads up.
Something is going down yo. You can just feel it. Something huge. I think Mullin is well aware of the cap and the future of the franchise so this trade must be for something. Plus Fisher is a good point guard that understands x's and o's, but isn't this signing a bit too long?. Man we'll have him till he's 36. That's kinda old.

Otherwise, I might just become a crack dealer and retire off these guys doing the signings. I be slangin' and bangin' it yo.
Whether someting is up or not, we are most likely stuck with Fisher's deal for quite some time, because I don't see how his contract can be shipped. And, that means we will have to pay 6 mils per years for Fisher. For that, this deal leaves sour taste... very very sour taste...

The shock is so bad I might end up drinking worse than Mullin and Vin Baker combined.
I really don't see much logic in this signing. Ok, let's assume that we will deal NVE and will need a back up PG. If that's the case, is there any reason for us to go bidding war and take Fisher away from Houston by outbidding them? Houston is clearly offering a starting job. Did we make same promise to Fisher, when Speedy excelled when he started? Will Fisher start over Speedy with some reason like "Speedy will be an excellent backup and a spark plug"? Did Mullin desperately want Fisher? Because, if you need a back up PG, all you need is wait and pick up a good veteran for cheap. That's what we did to Boykins, Cardinal, Speedy and Cheaney. And, if nothing is brewing and Mullin gave 6 mils per Fisher, this deal is just retarded...
I don't like the deal very much, but I think the reason he was signed was because both of the warriors current PGs seem prone to injury. Even though I feel the warriors overpayed for fisher, I think he is basically insurance the warriors don't have to play without a Pg next season if Claxton or NVE go down. I really like claxton, but he can't seem to make it through an entire season.
It's possible Speedy could be on the move. I just can't see Fisher agreeing to sign with the Warriors if Speedy was going to be on the roster because there's definately going to be a point guard controversy. If I was Fisher, there's no way I'd sign with the Warriors over the Rockets, even if the Rockets weren't offering the full MLE. I officially have no idea what's going on right now, I can't even guess what Mullin in thinking. Hopefully he'll let us know in a few days.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Gohn:</div><div class="quote_post">I don't understand why they had to sign Fisher for 6 years, I think 3 years would have been ideal.</div> I know we get him till he's 36 basically. That's kinda old for a guard that's pretty slow to begin with. If he loses a step he won't be far off from Dunleavy.
For one good news, I heard that 6th year's deal is team option, so it's essentially 5 years 30 mils. Of course, it's still very tough to swallow, but I guess it beast 6 years 37 mils...
Just when you thought things couldn't get any worse... I have faith in Mullin and I will give him time to prove me wrong on this. I don't that trading NVE will solve this logjam at pg and make the Fisher signing better. It will only make things worse IMO because there goes our cap space! Can someone please explain how we are going to resign J-Rich and Murph, and get that "superstar free agent" we have all been talking about since we made the Jamison for NVE deal!!!!
