You're mis-reading. NJ isn't saying they want to trade Williams for Howard; they're saying they'll consider trading Williams away if they don't get Howard. Blazer Fans then translate that into us trading for him (but assuming NJ would want Felton or Wallace in that deal does seem kind silly).
Their best players after Deron are: Kris Humphries, Marshon Brooks, and Anthony Morrow. Can't do shit with that. Deron's last few weeks have been amazing. He did everything he possibly could to win.
Point guards like Deron Williams need somebody to setup that can actually do something with the ball, otherwise they get turned into isolation players constantly trying to bail out a team by going one-on-five. That's not Williams' game ... and frankly Avery Johnson sucks as an offensive coach, so I'm sure that might have a little bit to do with it too.
if we really wanted him, we could always just sign him outright this offseason, and not trade batum... and thats assuming a 9 a year extension for batum AND wallace not opting out
I wonder how would Deron Williams' game change under McMillan. Not to mention having better teammates.
Deron would BLOSSOM under D'Antoni. He can pass AND shoot. NJ should've got Carmelo and NY should've got Deron. That can be fixed with a simple swap, and Amare and Deron will be much happier. Carmelo not so much.
'Melo only plays one side of the ball and doesn't make anyone around him better. Amar'e is slowing down -- he's mainly a jumpshooter these days. Maybe Kerr was right, his knees have expiring dates on them. He's on a max deal and none of it is insured. Both are unappealing when you consider their age (late 20's) and NJ's roster -- full-blown rebuild mode.
Lopez and Brooks -- It's definitely going to be a hard sell. He's going to waste a lot of his prime years in what's currently a rebuilding Nets team.
This is what I was wondering. I have seen a lot Deron Williams games with the Jazz offense but I wonder what he would fit like with our current group assuming Nate continues to run. In the end he is still Deron Williams so you make it happen if you can and figure it out from there.
We could sign Deron in the offseason and let Felton, Camby, Gerald walk. Then we get to keep Batum and know Deron will be here in the long run. I'd hate to give up Batum and a bunch of other pieces then have Deron bolt to Dallas with Dwight.
So you think Deron isn't going to be traded but that if NJ doesn't get Howard he will leave this summer. So NJ convinced they will get Howard?
I'm assuming Vinyard is thinking that the Nets will hope he either changes his mind and re-signs as opposed to just giving up .75 cents on the dollar, or if he does walk use the cap space to try and lure other players in?
That's their problem; Howard will likely be the 100th big-name FA they've struck out on. Even with the new Brooklyn arena stars seem to want to avoid the Nets like a plague.
