POB looks terrible. He's slow to react on defense and rotates poorly.

derozan is looking very casual out there. he's not fighting for rebounding position and he settling for jump shots when he should be able to blow by daye

I thought DeRozan showcased a very smooth mid-range game. He had that pull-up move down pat. Considering the pace of the game, I thought he looked very composed and in-control.

Wasn't really all that impressed by anyone else. Ukic was either making a mistake or not making an impact. POB was a total stiff. Douby and Smush alternated ballhogging/chucking, and basically set the tone for the Raptors offense (I couldn't stand the way the game was played).

man... derozan couldnt get by taylor griffin and taylor even scored on him off the bounce. derozan isnt as quick as i expected him to be and his handles is high school quality. although, his jumper, particularly his mid range game is a lot better than advertised.

^douby single handily carried the team to victory.. the way he was looking at the clock after every raptor possession was like.. "okay its 2mins to go let me kick it to high gear.."

derozan has a nice jumper.. but his handles is still weak(better than joey at least) and he isnt as explosive as i thought he would.. i didnt see the matchup when griffin was on him.. but i did see when he was stuffed going to the hoop a couple of occasion when clark was guarding him..

i still like james johnson and still think he'll be better pro.. watching jj play for chicago, he wouldve fit so beatifully on this team..

great handles.. underrated quicks (at least he can get by his man).. and smooth jumper.. on top of all he can dish it nicely!

That was, by far, Douby's best summer league game. He'd put up big numbers in the first three games, but had to hog the ball quite a bit to do that. I thought he was playing more in-control and within the flow of the offense yesterday. He seemed to place a greater emphasis on distributing the ball, which is important for him to play meaningful minutes in the NBA. I don't think he deserves minutes at PG, but he's not a good enough scorer to make his living simply off of that. He has to supplement that offensive ability with tough D and above-average passing for a SG.

Anybody else feel like the scouting reports on DeRozan were terrible? My observations are completely at odds with what was said about him before the draft. His jumper was supposedly very weak. I've seen a very smooth, fundamentally sound mid-range J from him in all 4 games. On the other hand, he was supposed to be a tough defender with a great motor. But I've been disappointed with his lack of effort on D (he leaks out too early and doesn't make an honest attempt at help defense). I will say this though. For someone who was supposedly very raw, he looks about as smooth and in-control as any rookie in summer league. Does anybody else feel like he could play similar to Rip Hamilton down the line, but with more above-the-rim ability?

no, rips existence is defined by his relentless effort (ability to outhustle the opposition) and his ability to come off screens. essentially thats the antithesis of the derozan description u gave above. nevertheless, i concur with all of your observations of derozan. i dont think he's ever going to be a star in the league, although, thats difficult to project because he's so young. i think he's going to have a serviceable nba career and thats better than the alternative of being gerald green.

I thought the lack of effort was limited to his defensive play, where he often looks disinterested. Offensively though, it's been the opposite IMO. He's been very active. In fact, I've felt that the selfish mentality of most Summer League players has led his teammates to miss him on a lot of his cuts to the basket.

Down the road, he needs to improve his shooting range and one-on-one dribbling ability. In the meantime, I think he's very capable of being a contributor as someone who moves off-the-ball and then pulls up for a mid-range J or makes a quick move to the basket. He has the athleticism and energy to play that kind of game, and it looks like he's polished enough to finish those kind of plays. It also makes it easier for him to do what he does best. He'll find it easier to get to the basket 15 feet out with a defender chasing him, rather than from the 3 pt. line with a defender in front of him.
