I think this tells more about the circumstance than how players feel about the coach. Butler is entering negotiations soon, and well, he knows he's dealing with a front office that has a track record of being vindictive. The other players have more security, especially since Paxson has shown himself unable to execute a trade.

IF the rumors are true and coach Tom Thibodeau is history, will the Bulls trade him and what would they receive in return? --Michael, Chicago

Given that Thibodeau has two years remaining on his deal, the Bulls would be foolish not to explore compensation avenues should they decide to make a coaching change. The problem is, with the entire league aware of the frayed relationship between Thibodeau and management, the Magic and Pelicans may be hesitant to offer compensation when the Bulls could make a change anyway. Several league executives theorize the Bulls could get, at most, a second-round pick if a change is made.

Do you think the Bulls can advance anywhere with Thibodeau as head coach? Because to me it seems like the Bulls need a better offensive coach. --Josiah, Chicago

It’s funny you say that after a season in which the Bulls averaged 100.8 points, 2.2 points higher than the previous high under Thibodeau. And their offensive rating of 107.5 ranked second highest behind the 2010-11 team that went to the conference finals. It’s true that management would’ve preferred Thibodeau hiring an offensive specialist as an assistant coach. And it’s also true management believes Thibodeau is too controlling as an offensive coach, calling too many plays and not featuring enough dynamic sets. The Bulls also play too slowly, never ranking higher than 23rd in offensive pace under Thibodeau.

You have a great defensive coach and you give him players who can't play defense in Nikola Mirotic, Pau Gasol and Doug McDermott. Why? --David, Chicago

Nobody wanted to relive the 2013-14 offense. Granted, Derrick Rose missed all but 10 games that season, but the Bulls ranked last in scoring and shooting and, man, did it hurt the eyes. Thibodeau and management talked consistently after the first-round exit to the Wizards about improving shooting and scoring. Management did that. The game has changed. It’s an offensive league now. Plus, Thibodeau has proven very adept at absorbing below-average individual defenders into team concepts that make them accountable. See: Marco Belinelli.
