The problem with the Hong Kong stuff was that he did respond - and his response was pretty shitty. I do not hate LeBron and I am certain he does a lot of good - but what he said about Morey and Hong Kong was at best very poorly worded (which is how he tried to get out of it) and could be thought of as hypocrisy, unfortunately.
