Despite the Loss, I Thought Sabathia Looked Good

The New York Yankees lost to the Detroit Tigers by a score of 4-2. Starting for the Yankees was C.C. Sabathia and he pitched a complete game for the loss. He gave up 4 earned runs.

CC Sabathia looked good tonight despite what the box score says. He was throwing hard in the last inning he pitched and it looks as though his fastball is back. He gave up a run in the first inning but settled down after that.

Sabathia only had one bad inning which was the 6th inning. He threw 2 bad pitches that he hung out over the plate to Polanco and Granderson. Granderson made a great bunt single and it was easier for him to get on base because Sabathia falls off to the third base side when he pitches.

The fast ball to Polanco was supposed to be away but CC threw it in the middle and Polanco pounced on it to drive in Granderson. The biggest mistake of the night for Sabathia was the hanging change up he made to Magglio Ordonez in which Ordonez hit a 2 run home run.

However, the bull pen got a rest which is a great thing.

The Yankees couldn’t hit Justin Verlander because he was on. After he throws strike one to a batter, players only bat .180 on him and he threw a lot of first pitch strikes. He was throwing his fastball at 99 mph and had a biting curveball that dropped straight down.

The Yankees were 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position. They are batting .223 with runners in scoring position for the season. When you start to lose, the pressure builds up on some of the hitters. When the Yankee batters are up, they know that Verlander is bringing his “A” game and it puts even more pressure on them. They might think that they have to get a hit when there are men in scoring position because they know it’s their only chance the way Verlander was pitching.

With the Yankees not hitting well with runners in scoring position, there was no chance for them to overcome a 4-0 deficit.

One player that is hitting great for the Yankees is Robinson Cano. His timing is dead on and he’s hitting every thing in sight. He did have a chance to drive in Teixeira from second base in the fourth inning but he flied out.
