Bobby Marks is reporting that August 31st is the deadline to use the waive and stretch provision. By waiving and stretching Louzada, the Blazers are now under the tax (currently over 1.54 mill) and teams under the tax are set to receive 16.5 mill per team.
If they really did stretch his contract, it's a clear indication they're going to stay under the tax this year. That means they aren't signing anyone else. Any trades with more money coming in than out, you can just forget about them happening. Any trades with more players going out than coming in would have to also have to have less money coming back, enough to get back to 14 roster spots without going back over the tax. This is a very odd decision considering the hard cap. Being cheapskates is pretty much the only logical conclusion. I hope that's wrong.
Sale of team soon to follow! Here is a sideways thought. Maybe Jodi went public with the team isnt for sale because there is already a private agreement to sell to Mr. Knight and they mist need to work out all the details and knight wants the books in order first?
I guess people can call them "Cheapskates" but why? Louzada was louZee. Why stay over the tax for a player like that? Good business isn't being cheap?
It has nothing to do with Didi. It's that if they have to stay under the tax, they can't improve the roster by say signing a Dwight Howard or something. And for trades they can't take back more than goes out. This hampers Cronin the entire season.
Sure. Why not? If around the trade deadline there is some hope for a playoff run and or a player available to make a difference they now have a roster spot and a little more flexibility. If things look like there is no sense in going into the tax then they can hold fast. This is just smart.
Look it does have something to do with Didi. He isn't worth keeping. He certainly isn't worth staying over the tax for. He's the one that got cut. Yeah it has something to do with Didi. Also your trying to say they are being cheap? Won't argue that but IMO they are being smart not cheap.
I agree. We all knew he was the obvious one to let go and no one was going to trade for him. So if the deadline to stretch him is Wednesday why not do it? I would do the same just in case a later trade never materializes. Then if one does then you do it and go over the cap. But I can see where they would plan for both scenarios.
It was either keep Didi and not send out broadcasting team on the road or release Didi and use the money saved to send our broadcasting team on the road haha
