Your job isnt to cater to the opposing players, no matter who they were. Im sure Dirk and Finley are still good friends, and I doubt Finley is taking it seriously.

Dirk jokes around about everything. Did you guys see to tnt interview? he threw in a couple of jokes in their as well. But he is professional on every damn question someone throws at him. Dirk wouldnt say this about anyone he didnt know on a personal level. And besides that was a stupid question "what type of reception does he deserve" do you think that Dirk gives a damn what reception he deserves, were trying to win a title. And Their is no way he said that comment to be a pirate hooker.
I don't think Dirk is wrong in saying that. Players and competitors have ways of motivating themselves. The Pistons are always getting mad at refs and bringing that emotion to fire them up. They also say that they're the most underrated/underappreciated team and they get no respect from the world (which we all know is BS). The Lakers take cheap shots at everyone and then start acting like they want to fight. In this series, Dirk is using the Finley-to-Spurs acquisition of motivating himself, his team, and the fans. He sees it as Finley going to the team that stands in the Mavs' way. Finley will always have a place in the Mavs heart but in this series Dallas is gonna use the whole thing as motivation to prove to themselves that they're better off and that Finley made a big mistake in going with the rival Spurs. It's also gonna get the fans fired up and make sure that Dallas' homecourt is gonna make a lot of noise and put pressure on the Spurs.
wow i was surprised dirk said that about finley openly considering what finley has contributed to the team the past years he is like the icon of dallas for many years he just want to win that's all, so does dirk oh well....we'll see who has the last laugh
Yeah, this is a pretty timid statement. I imagine it was said in a joking mannor. Now Dirk has done and said some things that made me resent the guy, but this isn't one of them.
The Mavs are gonna come out and wipe the floor with the Spurs. They're gonna do this because of the mentality and mindstate that Avery Johnson has brought to this team. They're gonna do this because they're more movitated than the Spurs. The Mavs and fans really believe it's their year to win it all.
Just a note...Mike finley has been booed everytime he touches the ball tonight in game 4. lol. And when the announcers talked about Dirk's statement they said it in a joking way...
You know, I don't mind Dirk saying it, but I DO mind the Dallas fans doing it. What did Mike ever do for them other than give his all every single night? Did he ask to leave? No, HE was cut. Finley is a man you don't boo. He's not lighting up the world the way Nash is. He's just letting his career wind down in a good situation. There's no reason to boo him.
I wouldnt mind him saying theyre gonna respect him but try to beat his team but totally dissing him like that is straight up rude
its like Avery Johnson, he is kicking our butts but we dont boo him. Its a sign of respect of what he did for our team. Finley didnt choose to leave, Dallas did not want to sign him back. nash chosse to leave. Its like pop said "lack of class"
Finley should never be booed in Dallas for all that he has done for the franchise. However, Finley should not be cheered either, especially in the playoffs, and especially when he is wearing the opponents colors.

Did you see the post game interview with Dirk where he pretty much said he was kidding when he said that and never expected the fans to blindly do what he said? Poor Fin wanted to stay in Dallas, but because of salary-economics got the boot. Not a fitting end for a consumate professional.
