Sounds like Bill Maher: http://www.latimes.com/news/printedition/asection/la-na-protests26-2008aug26,0,6408951.story "You're going to see escalations on both sides," Ward Churchill, a controversial former University of Colorado professor who was fired after he compared Sept. 11 victims to Nazis, said before the march Monday. "The convention hasn't even started yet." Indeed, on Monday night, protesters and police clashed during an impromptu march and about 90 people were arrested in downtown Denver.
Speaking of MSNBC: That's why I say two partisans shouldn't work election coverage.
I had to stop watching MSNBC's coverage last night when there was similar on-air banter and Olbermann basically (literally) said "I better stop now before I sound more like a sycophant." Sycophant: noun A base parasite; a mean or servile flatterer; especially, a flatterer of princes and great men.
Both sides? I really think that the same people protesting outside the DNC are going to simply move their travelling circus to the RNC when its their turn. Ward Churchill appears to be their leader or something from the footage that FOX showed last night. Going to start a new thread on Nazis...
LOL Tom Brokaw and Evan Bayh were just interviewed on MSNBC by Tom Brokaw. Tom Brokaw finished by saying "Governor Rendell thank you for being here, Governor Bayh thank you for being here. And Governor Rendell, we let you go without having you make a crack about MSNBC." Rendell just let out a laugh and then frowned.
Olberman sounded okay to me when he was only reporting on sports on ESPN. I actually liked listening to him a lot more than Chris Mortensen or Berman.
I heard Abrams might leave NBC, and that some other places were interested. MSNBC has had some tense moments recently.
I don't know if KO specifically got Abrams fired. I tend to think Abrams was fired because his show sucked. At the same time, look who's replacing Abrams, Rachel Maddow was the guest host of Countdown when Olbermann wasn't there.
I saw his show occasionally. I thought it was respectable because he was at least a fair moderator, and he provided opposing views on his show. KO's just plain scary sometimes.
I thought of Abrams as trying to take the KO route and presenting it as a liberal attack show, but he couldn't pull it off. Joe Scarborough has been trying to cozy up with these liberals by blogging with the Huffington Post and trying to be nice with Olbermann and Maddow, and go after Bill O'Reilly but the bottom line is he is a Conservative Republican, elected to the House in the year of the Contract With America. Notice that as soon as he reports or says someting that's not in line with KO's ideology, KO turns on him. I remember when Maddow pissed Joe off so much that he walked off the set of Race for the White House.
Abrams was definitely Liberal, but I wouldn't be that harsh on him. The guy actually had some real debates on his program, unlike KO. He was more than willing to let Conservatives rant on his show. I just don't think it was polite for KO to suddenly stop introducing his colleague like that.
huevon you're absolutely right, Abrams had conservatives on his show. If it is true that KO had Abrams ousted, that's probably the reason why. BTW FWIW Republicans aren't the only ones that are disrupting the convention. I'm watching Hardball right now and the problems with doing an outdoor show with a crowd are evident, such as the retard 9/11 truth sheep in the background. You also have Hillary delegates who could disrupt the convention. Hell Bill Clinton himself could piss off some Democrats tomorrow night.
I thought that John Gibson might be being sarcastic when he said Joe Scarborough might be searching for a job for getting into it with KO. Now I think it's a serious possibility. He went nuts on his show this morning at David Shuster (Clintons-as-pimps commenter) and MSNBC. Scarborough's Scoff: So Glad MSNBC Down the Middle By Mark Finkelstein Created 2008-08-26 09:00 Tensions are running high at MSNBC, at least surrounding veteran host Joe Scarborough who seems to be increasingly discontented at his network's decision to market itself as the cable net of choice for Bush haters. That hasn't sat well with the likes of the far left Keith Olbermann who has played a large role in getting MSNBC to pursue this strategy The Democratic convention seems to have only exacerbated those tensions. Last night saw Olbermann caught on an open mic blurting out profane disgust at Scarborough [0], prompting the latter to verbally call him out while fellow MSNBC anchor Chris Matthews sat back mortified at the intra-family dispute. Things don't appear to have been smoothed over either as Scarborough was involved in another altercation this morning with liberal correspondent David Shuster on today's "Morning Joe." Scarborough ultimately accused Shuster and his MSNBC colleagues of being Democrats, their independent political registrations notwithstanding. (Exchange happens at 2:15 in video to the right.) A news segment about Iraqi President al-Maliki's call for the withdrawal of US troops set off the skirmish. Shuster snidely suggested to Joe that "your party, the Republican party" mocks those who call for withdrawal. All hell ensued. The entire seven-minute exchange is worth viewing, but the highlight was Scarborough's challenge to Shuster and MSNBC at large over their independence. JOE SCARBOROUGH: I will let you know that "my party," my party, loathes me, much more than your party, the Democratic party, loathes me. DAVID SHUSTER: Well that's a whole 'nother issue, but the fact of the matter is -- SCARBOROUGH: No, it's not another issue, because you said -- SHUSTER: The party you served with in Congress have repeatedly suggested, they have ridiculed -- SCARBOROUGH: What about your party? What's your party? David Shuster, David: what's your party? SHUSTER: I have no party. I'm a complete independent. SCARBOROUGH: Oh, you're independent. Just like all -- SHUSTER: I'll show you my voting card. I'll show you how I'm registered later. SCARBOROUGH: Oh, I feel so comforted by the fact that you're an independent. I bet everyone at MSNBC has "independent" on their voting cards. "Oh, we're down the middle now." Go ahead, David. No, no, go ahead. You're an independent David. Go ahead. Talk about my party. Go ahead. SHUSTER: Are you done? SCARBOROUGH: No, I'm not done, when the fact is that I'm about as down-the-middle as anybody on television on any network, and you come in with a cheap shot, calling up "your party." A bit later, Scarborough jabbed Shuster over his tardiness. SCARBOROUGH: Do you never watch this show? MIKA BRZEZINSKI: He's on this show! SCARBOROUGH: You must be asleep. Oh, that's right. You usually sleep through the show. BRZEZINSKI: Sto-o-p-p-p. SCARBOROUGH: Because you didn't show up three times in a row! Three times you slept through your alarm and didn't come on this show. SHUSTER [to fellow panelists]: That's how the argument works. Link
Still watching the convention on FOX....O'Reilly loves to thump the polls. Does he thump them that much when his guy is losing?
Wow, the O'Reilly factor is now pro-Hillary. What a flip flop. As soon as they found out that Obama wasn't going with Hillary as VP, they had a complete ad campaign set up just for this. They are amazingly sleazy. For the past two days, Bill has been painting the picture that Hillary was completely shafted, and that either candidate would do so well to have her on their ticket. They are completely overblowing any conflict between Obama and Hillary at the present time. It seems that their angle is to tell dumb women (that might be in the room when their Budweiser-drinking husband is watching FOX News) that Obama is "alienating women". They're literally putting ads on TV that attempt to reign in really dumb females. This one girl is on an ad saying, "I always vote Democrat, but I'm voting for J McCain....", then whispers to the camera, "It's OK" <smile, wink>.
Bill O, calls Spike Lee a pinhead simply because he refused to speak to a FOX news reporter. All Spike said was, "I don't do FOX". Really Bill? You immaturely call a guy names because he chooses not to talk to your cronie? Why did Bill even air that soundbite? Why did he even bother to call Spike names? Because Bill is a joke. Bill speaks to the lowest common denominator in terms of intelligence. I really tried to watch FOX, but to me it's like listening to 5th grade lunch room talk.
O'Reilly didn't prefer Hillary over Obama when she wasn't named VP, he's been pro-Hillary (if you want to call it that) since she got screwed in the primary, went on the O'Reilly Factor, and admitted (as Gov. Rendell did on Hannity and Colmes tonight) that Fox News was the network that treated her fairly. BTW, Obama said he would appear for an interview with O'Reilly after the primary. It hasn't happened yet.
I went to see Spike Lee speak in SF one about a year ago. It was before the showing of a new movie that he made. It was the last part of his Hurricane Katrina documentary. Great stuff, by the way. It was pretty crazy how they herded all those people onto planes and sent them into random parts of the country. Some never made it back.
