serious question, do Trumps words matter anymore? Nationally his words seem to embolden certain groups, but it struck me that there is not much conversation today about Trump threatening to totally destroy NK. Had Obama, Bush, Clinton or Reagan said such a thing it would have been non-stop coverage of that statement and analysis of what it meant to the US, NK and the world. But now there are articles and commentary but the general consensus is that it's all just bravado. I'm not even necessarily against a President using threats to drive an outcome. Ronald Reagan did it with aplomb and rewarded for it. I don't see Trump ever being able to be taken seriously on the world stage.
Honestly at this point, his blustering is losing its novelty among critics. I think it only matters to his supporters who see it as bucking the establishment. Critics at this point are probably like, yeah, this has been going on for 8 months. When you wrestle with a pig you get dirty and the pig likes it. I didn't see many criticisms of his comments internationally. I think that's because they realize that reacting to his comments just doesn't do anything.
His words are mattering less and less and it's happening at a rapid rate. But god damn if he ever wore a tan suit it would be fucking chaos
Trump should get a dog. Everyone likes dogs. Obama had a dog, Bush had a dog, Bill had a cat, that's why people don't like him or his wife.
He would totally do that. Or call it some gibberish like Covfefe and pretend that it has some hidden meaning.
To answer the question of the thread title: No. His words don't matter. Especially the ones he tweets. Those are just shiny things held up to distract us from what he's really trying to do. Like block grant (CUT TO FUCKING SMITHEREENS) Medicaid. Notice how the ReThuglicans are only trying to do it with reconciliation and WITHOUT a CBO score...
The media wing of the Democrat Party got distracted by the hurricanes and the negative PR blitz paused. Trump’s standing in almost all the polls improved significantly. Not great, but a far cry from the low 30s polls CNN cherry picks. I think General Kelley as chief of staff might have a wee bit to do with it. Legislative victories and bipartisanship likely helped, too. His response to the hurricanes, traveling there, serving up food, kissing babies, and promise (and delivered) federal money to begin repairs. But he hasn’t accomplished anything. Just ask the official gatekeepers of the (little t) truth (i.e. the whiney media).
Your right if Obama, Bush, Clinton, or Reagan had threatened to blow up NK shit would have hit the fan. The reason why it hasn't with Trump is because no one takes him or his words seriously.
They matter only in that he's the president, he represents our country, and he is embarassing the shit out of us
But, do his words matter? Seriously, I am not sure. I think on a world stage they matter less than any president in recent history. Locally maybe they still matter. McMasters words matter, as do the words of other cabinet members and the senate, but I don't think Trumps words carry any weight worldwide.
