playoff aspirations aside, our most tradeable assets are probably Blake and Trout (even with him busted up) and you could probably sweeten it with a guy like Rudy and toss in some Euro draft rights and get somebody decent. My best hope is that KP can somehow turn Blake into Brandon Bass either straight up, or maybe do a trade of Blake, Rudy, Travis and Claver's draft rights for Anthony Randolph and Vladamir Radmonivich -- which gives the Dubs cap relief, takes back a non expiring 6 million dollar deal with two more years and gives them an intriguing prospect in Rudy with some untapped upside and a 2nd or 3rd point guard they can let walk at the end of the year.
Who's also injury prone. That would be fantastic. We'd have a solid 21 feet of unusable centers on our roster.
It would be a bit amusing if this was the first Portland team since the 1999-2000 team to make the second round.
Rudy for Anthony Randolph, but also ship Blake and Travis' expiring deals to the Dubs who probably need to tear it down and rebuild and take back Vlad Rad who makes 6 million this year and next.
That really doesn't seem like a move the Bobcats would want to make. Miller's guaranteed two years are not going to be very attractive. Blake is probably going to be easier to move.
I would have no problem trading Miller, Cunningham, Pendegraph, and a couple Euros for a Center. Now who would that be?
The last time we discussed Joel Freeland....... What was the verdict on the earliest we could get him?
Is there a move to be made that helps? Then look at it. Is it more tanking by not making a move, then trading away one of 8 rotation players? I don't see us doing anything. I say hell no to tanking though, and I'm still pretty sure we make the playoffs with this group. It just got tougher, but so be it.
Now is when we see if the much vaunted character of the team is as strong as we have all heard. I still want the team to gut it's way to every victory they can.
and the answer is tank. After JP goes down you have to as my wife said "Shoot the moon" John Wall here we come we will only have a 2% chance and we will nail it.
You know whats really fucking funny? Even if we tanked for the rest of the year we won't have the worst record in the NBA when its over. Possibly not even the 2nd worst.
Losers make excuses. Tanking isn't an option. We need to take a page from Houston's book. The Rockets lost Yao/T-Mac and are 17-11 in the SW Division. They play hard and role players have stepped up to take advantage of the opportunity for more playing time. We are getting some key scorers back soon and have the flexibility to make a deal or two before the deadline. We might not make the 2nd round, but I'd be disappointed if we didn't make the playoffs and put up a strong fight.
I think we'll compete against all but the best teams. Against the elite ones, we may win one out of every three or four. Basically, if we can just play a little above .500 ball, we should still be able to scrape into the playoffs. We don't suck enough to tank. The only way this team loses consistently is if we bench both Roy and Aldridge, and we don't have the bodies to do that right now.
I respectfully disagree with your premise. I think that this team could make no moves and still play plus .500 ball for the rest of the season. We're going to start getting players back and that's going to be a HUGE lift to this team. In other words, we're to talented to tank. As for what I would do? I wouldn't make a move that didn't hugely benefit us in the long term. The short term be damned.
