No chickens so I have to clean garden myself. Front is cleared. Recent rains so in planter boxes in back peas, beans, cauliflower and beets sprouting. In the ground kale, lettuce, bok choy. Both plum trees flowering and nectarine getting close. Grapevine and fig trees putting out leaves. Still have pots, but not pot, indoors under lights. Artichokes growing.
    Cleared ground around strawberry plants.
But of a mishap today. Found aphids on one of the roses so went to the shed for Safer soap. A sudden gust of wind blew the door closed. It hit me on the ass hard enough to lose my balance. There is very little floor space in shed. I landed on plastic bin that once contained cat litter and now contains bone meal. It isn't strong enough for my weight and got crushed while my feet tangled in pruning shears. I wasn't hurt, just had to figure out how to get up from undignified heap.

Glad you are ok from the fall....I'm cloning a couple dozen fig tree starters after pruning my main fig tree last fall. They take a long time to root but I love figs....have 3 trees now with only one bearing fruit so I hope to have as many as I can plant framing my back acre.

My fig was originally planted by my father when we moved to California. I was three. After my mother died, he remarried and they both sold their homes and bought one together. He took a cutting of the fig and planted it. I took cuttings and planted in garden at my old house. When I moved I took a cutting. It will take a few years to fruit. But those figs are the size of pears and amazing flavor.

We’re thinking about doing raised beds using cinder blocks around the first week of April.

Going to plant all kinds of vegetables for salads and salsa’s.

Last season, I bought more onion bulbs than I had room for. Planted the extra bulbs under the tomato plants.

The batch of onions under the tomato plants turned out better than the onions that had their own ground.

The tomatoes act like shade cloth...I used to have a 20 ft trampoline when the son was still at home and we started all our greens under it and they out grew the greenhouse starters and the raised bed starters.

One of my favorite food plants to grow is the spaghetti squash, for so many reasons.

I am borderline diabetic, and need to watch my carb intake. The spaghetti squash can be used in pasta and rice dishes. Heck, it even taste ok baked plain with just salt and pepper.

It stores very well, all winter. We still have about 10 left from last season. 9 tomorrow, one in todays food bag.

One plant grows alot. 15-20 squash. Not much work to grow, just water and fertilize.

But it does take up a lot of room in the garden. A good plant to grow by itself, so it does not overrun the garden.

Yikes. So relatable. Though, I'd probably follow it up with a childish fit of some kind.

    Glad you're okay.

Made my first meth salad Thursday night. I've been working in the garden ever since. Just taking a small break. Back at it in 15 minutes for another 15 days straight!

    Like a weed.

Plus, I believe they add nitrogen back into the soil. Making them a good rotation crop.

    It is snowing now.
    It snowed yesterday.
This year will be very challenging to get a good crop.

Where is global warming when you need it?

My early garden is lush.....i use the greenhouse for some things but my peas and romain lettuce and chards, etc are amazing this season. Broccoli too.....I'm not in the high country though...no snow....lot of wind chill though and cold rain.I think the cold rain wiped out my cherry blossoms though...looks like the cherries will be in short supply....I added two yards of biotope soil with all the good stuff to the beds this season and that is helping as well. Going all in on the peas, beans and root crops this season. Winter keepers.

Global warming (climate change) may well be influencing your current cold weather.

Too early to plant outside here. It maybe another month the way the weather has been so far.

The walla wallas in the greenhouse are holding up. Had our first fresh greenhouse lettuce salad a couple days ago. But I lost 2/3s of the chards, rest are just barely hanging on.

Were you able to find any white, yellow or red onion sets? None of the suppliers here had any. Something about loosing all of the onion sets over the winter. I was lucky to find the walla wallas.

Anyone ever see Little Shop of Horrors? Artichoke plant reminds me of that except it's carnivorous. Keeps getting bigger and no matter how many artichokes I eat there are more.

Also eating lettuce, kale, beets, first strawberries.
