Again, please square the numbers for me. Oh, wait...you can't. The Obama team made the 2012 election about everything but Obamacare.

I wasn't aware you were the only person deciding what made a good message board.

Considering the Redskins won, you sure seem to be in a bad mood.

So, you know people who live in areas with costs of living much lower than the areas I mentioned, and you think it makes your point? Hilarious.

And you don't think that there are people who bought at the low end and saw neighborhoods explode in value over 30-50 years? Hell, there are tens of thousands of those people in the Portland area alone, much less the rest of the country. Repeat that story in every major in the country and you'll get my point.

your point was that people making 250-500K in LA, New York etc, barely scrape by.

that's absolute and utter horse shit.

If you are a married, retired, couple and you make say...75K in retirement (which is pretty damn good money for 95% of the retired people in the US), and sell a house for 600K, and you have to pay 3.8% tax on 100K of the sale (which is the most you'd pay on), you'd pay 3800 dollars..on money you made as profit from the sale of the house.

    Cry me a river.

The world you live in does not represent the vast majority of the people this tax will not actually hit.

And even those who it does hit, it's not really that much. And if you start talking about "my 3rd house in Hawaii sold for 1.3 million..blah blah blah", I think I, like many others, will just start tuning out your constant need to brag about how much money you make, how it costs so much for you to live, how many houses you own, where you went to college, what rich person you know, the car you drive or any of the other bragging you do on here.

you should really log off, and enjoy your family and rejoice that the Redskins won.

You'd be surprised at how little your dollar buys you in many towns in the US. Obviously, you don't have any real experience with it, so I'll just let you rant.

Fine, you pay $3,800 when you are living on Social Security and you see how much it impacts you. Who the fuck do you think you are to tell people what does and doesn't hurt?

You have no idea about the world in which I live. You only have this Richie Rich vision floating inside your head because you can't conceive that anyone who has done reasonably well could have compassion for others. Put it another way, you're an ignoramus.

Who the hell are you to decide what is and isn't much money? Jesus, and you call me arrogant?

Project much? What's funny is that you think it's "bragging" when it's just stating simple facts, no different than saying "I had Mexican food Friday night" or "I took a huge shit Saturday morning". You really need to get over your inferiority complex. Love yourself for who you are.

Thanks for your advice. I think instead I'll do whatever I fucking feel like. Manage your own life instead of worrying about others.

Exactly. I want everyone to be treated equally. Instead, there's this idea of "someone else can pay for it, because they can afford it" that drives me nuts. I'll support the helpless, but not the lazy. And if you work hard, but still don't have enough, work harder or smarter. Instead, we have a whole generation of people with their hand out. Fucking shameful.

Only if they're selling their house. and it's more than (in mags case) 500K above what he paid for it, he'd pay it.

So if you bought a house for 300K, and sell it for 600K, your gain is what, 300K, right?

So if you make 100K a year, and are a married couple, you are exempt up to 500K worth of CG.

And in this case..you are exempt.

So again, this effects not a large # of people.

Mags, take how much you make a year (A), and then what you bought your house for (B) and what you sold it for (C) and do this math equation.

If (B-C)+A= more than 500, you pay 3.8% on whatever the difference is.

You'd have to either make a TON of money, or make a HUGE profit on a house, for this to be a major issue for you.

It's not the point. It's that you don't get to decide what breaks someone or not. If you love these programs so much, why don't you pay extra tax? It won't break you.

And who do you think those people are by and large? THE ELDERLY. Generally those people on a fixed income. For them it is a huge issue. Are you really this fucking stupid?

No, it's not like stating what you've had for dinner last night. The funny thing is it's like a nervous twitch for you to interject in nearly every thread to remind people you have a place here, you've studied there, you've lived a couple years there, you've rub shoulders with him or her..... Yada yada

Where I come from it's called one upping and no one really gives a rats.

Thanks, I'll let you talk out of your ass.

you do realize that if you pay 3800 and you're living on Social Security, it most likely means you made a HUGE profit from your sale, right?

Actually, I know someone who is far richer than you, and they're far more compassionate than you are. That is, unless you're taking in a couple million per year.

says the man who claims people making 250K are barely making ends meet...

ah, the old "you're just jealous" card..Yeah, that must be it. I'm jealous of some guy on a message board. Yep, that's me!

gosh I wish I was pompous and could brag on a message board!

You know what really wealthy people do?

They don't waste time bragging about how wealthy they are, or their houses, or on a message board. They're busy working. Making money.

ahh...did someone get their feewings hurt?

And if they're on a fixed income, that means they're NOT making over 500K.

And if they sell their house, chances are their income PLUS the CG's from the sale of the house, won't be over 500K.

Most seniors living on a fixed income don't live in houses that are worth 500K...why not?

Because they're on a fixed income.

Not sure why you think these people are paying this tax.

You come from a fucked up place. Where I come from, it's call sharing and relating. And obviously you care as you can't let it go.
