Do you think the NBA is a fair game?

Even if they were "independent", they would STILL be working for the NBA.

 

I think the game wasn't exactly fairly reffed 10 years ago and probably before that as well. Stars and Markets seem to be preferential treatment when something was on the line. With Stern out and Silver in the NBA has taken a little twist. The NBA no longer needs the big markets to pull in crowds and sales, of course its better when the big markets are in the big games but its no longer a big issue because of all the outlets for fans and media. The money and explosure is still there if the Star is in a small market just as it is in a big market, the big market pays more but sure but its no longer a giant loss of revenue to allow the small markets win and the big markets lose.
Reffing is just something that is a really hard job to do and no matter how good a job a ref does one side thinks they stunk. Reffing almost seems to be more about the reputation a team has then whats actually going on on the court. Sure CP3 gets away with a ton but its not just on Dame, watch CP3 guard Curry and CP3 will foul Curry all night long and the refs wont call them all. Its very similar to the Seahawks in 2013 or the Broncos last year, both had a D that got away with murder but thats simply because they had a correct mentality of "the refs can't call it everytime" and used it to there advantage. Thats what the clippers are doing to us and its up to the Blazers to either decide that they will give as good as they get or to try and figure out a way to play around the constant grabbing/shoving/illegal screen setting and everything else the Clippers will do.

 

The NBA was worse 10+ years ago. The Shaq/Kobe days were ridiculous.

Violet Palmer gets a bad rap but she's actually a great referee.

Unfortunately it appears the NBA is less rigged than the US voting system.

 

Here's the thing: In the beginning the NBA was openly biased. The average American knew only a small handful of NBA players, and the league used to advertise the star players and their athleticism, grace, speed, power,.... The referees openly made calls to help these players - if they didn't succeed the league wouldn't.

The league has been desperate to show that it's a level playing field, but it hasn't done a good job of that. Maybe, because hasn't been levelled.

Outside the Spurs, no team in the bottom 10 has won a championship since 2000.
OTOH, only 1 team outside the Lakers in the top 10 has won one either.

Of course if you go back to the 50s and 60s, it's all Lakers and Celtics - but there weren't that many teams back then.

So, the question is "Can Lillard become, or can we trade for a Duncan/James level of player?" The answer is probably no, sigh.

Portland was called for nearly double the fouls that L.A. was called for and both teams were equally aggressive. Overall, a poorly officiated game that fortunately did not cost us.

 

Completely overlooked is the team owner's relationship with the league.

All the Championship teams have owners who are basically yes-men to whatever the league management proposes. Paul Allen has been successful in court in opposition to league changes and has openly utilized "legal loopholes" to get around limitations that the league has imposed. This cost us an Allstar game hosting promised by the league and I believe it has been the main factor in every playoff loss we've had since.

We are blacklisted.
