It wasn't just the playoffs. Houston fans have been complaining about his offense all season.

Hmmm. And who has been out all season...Tracy McGrady. You can keep splitting hairs if you want to, but Ron has shown he can be a team guy in the past. As soon as Tmac was gone, he had to shoulder part of the load. As soon as Yao was gone, he had to try and shoulder more.

I believe if he was here he would recognize Brandon Roy as team leader and follow suit. He has spoken with a great deal of respect for Roy. He would know his place. Behind Roy, behind Aldridge in the scoring column. Probably behind Greg soon if he ends up making some noise.

I could see him happy to just be a "Crazy Pills" on defense and becoming Rodman like with a little O.

Wheels said on 95.5 that KP has told insiders that he plans on offering a contract to a FA tonight at 12:01.

    Someone on OLive guessed BRoy.

    It makes sense.

And at 12:10 he will issue a press release - "We explored numerous options, but none of them made sense for us. We really like our roster and want to keep it together and see what it can do. We really like our culture. We really like Blake as our PG. We really like rainbows and unicorns and turtles...and pudding!"

Roy makes no sense because, while we can offer him a contract then, he is not a FA of any kind.

So if Wheels said we would offer a FA a contract then, it can't be Roy

That's a good point. I wasn't listening very intently. Did Wheels say "FA" explicitly, Fez?

Everyone seems to be saying that. If he said player though, it could be Roy. That is the splash I expect KP to make anyway.

Shit, I wasn't paying enough attention. Roy might be right, not sure. ADD strikes again.

Offering Roy or Aldridge a contract before any free agents are offered contracts would be stupid, they aren't talking about that. Remember a few years ago when Juwan Howard tried to sign as a free agent with Miami, but then on a talk show, Alonzo Mourning stupidly let out he had already signed his contract extension days before and put Miami over the cap? Juwan Howard signing was nullified and NBA history was changed. A young Juwan Hoawrd and Alonzo Mourning would have been a mean combo. But order of operations nullified the whole deal.

They won't go over the cap. This year's salary is already locked in. Next year's is what is different.

Yes, it would be stupid. It would also be the perfect excuse if the team really doesn't want to pursue a roster upgrade anyway. :dunno:

You sure about that? I thought this season's cap was going to be determined next week.

    You are correct.

Which brings up the point that it would be hard to offer money to a FA when you don't know how much money you will have. I mean I am pretty sure they have an idea, but if it's to a player like Hedo, and the Blazers say they will give him 8 mil per season and the cap comes back so we only have 7 to give......

It's either Roy or some mid level type player like Bass.

Roy's 2009-10 salary is locked in at 3,910,816. That was the option the team extended him last year, which he signed.

The 2010-11 qualifying offer requirement is 5,217,029. His cap hold will be right around 12M. If he agrees to an extension tomorrow, 2010-11 is what's affected, not this year's space.
