What would Jesus do? The exact opposite of everything American right wing Christians are doing. These people are fucked.

Oh, and lost souls like Candace Owens? Jesus would be flipping her goddamned tables over.

Aside from Jason Jennings, that is.

Here's what historians think he looked like:

most addicts will need to be locked up for a period of time for detoxication. Part of the problem is its too short and many addicts get back on the street and repeat the same cycle.

I would submit that addicts do need to be locked up. Just in another way with a different daily structure/programs to help them go through all of the steps to truly quit and recover. But legalizing hard drugs isn't going to get people to stop using them. It just provides an easier method of increased addiction in the community.

If the number one homeless problem is addiction then the number one priority for us should be treatment of addiction. Almost all addiction recovery starts with a lockdown of sorts.

The number one problem with homelessness is not putting people in homes.

Demand for marijuana has cratered since it became legal here in Oregon.

I have no problem with locking people up if they are breaking other laws, but not for drugs. If you catch them doing something wrong and lock them up and find out they are an addict, then yeah, make rehab part of their jail sentence. I have no problem with that at all.

marijuana is not a hard drug. It doesn't have the addictive properties and depth as others drugs that by and large force people to make bad decisions.
some drugs should absolutely be illegal.
Your idea will not stem the addiction problem. Its a reaction. Not a proaction.
much like racism, addiction needs to be tackled at the root. Not once its too late and the person has been influenced being repair.

What I am describing has reduced crime rates, addiction rates, and overdose rates everywhere it has been tried.

Where and when has what you are talking about worked? Do you have any examples of your suggested method working well?

    Doesn't everyone, though?

In fact, I spent a few days in Arkansas once, on a fishing trip.

    And I don't fish.

I already provided you evidence that right here in Portland, legalizing the hard drugs has increased drug usage.
I also showed you evidence that even though there is free help, the addicts are by and large declining it.
It hasnt worked here in Portland and thats enough factual evidence to show legalization, here, is not working. Whether it worked elsewhere is irrelevant if it is actively not working here.
And again, other places are not here.

Once we realize that its the drug addiction that has people making poor choices to commit crimes to support thier habit, then we have pinpointed the source of the bulk of the homelessness(other being poverty).

Listen. I live and am dealing with a hard core drunk. There is no help, no rationalization, no common sense that can be had from addicts.
Until they are ready to want and maintain the want for help and they want to quit, nothing will help. No legalization. No prison time, etc.
I see it up front on a daily basis in a vacuum and have lived very close to addicts half my life.
I speak from living with the problem. Not off some reports from another country that doesn't have the same social/community breakdowns that we have.
Only two things will solve the homelessness/ drug problem here.
Lockdown for addicts to recover and better social services for broken families.
Either way though, addicts aren't typically able to kick the habit without a detox lockdown.
Just read up on recovery program websites. They all say the first step is a detox that usually involves a lockdown of sorts.
These are recovery facts you can read up on addiction and what recovery entails.

Anyhow those are my thoughts on this. I will curb further thoughts on this topic, as i just realized this is supposed to be about religion. Not drug addictions and homelessness.

Look, I have an undisputable personal relationship with Christ. You (and anyone else, for that matter) can attempt to dispute that way, but it won't change that reality one iota.

Are you trying to convince yourself because I could care less who you have relationships with or who your lord and master is. I believe in choice...just stay the fuck out of my choices and you can gamble on the kingdom and afterlife all you want to . I live here now and what happens here is important to me...not your mythological loyalty which you and your other flock are trying to impose on us through the laws of THIS land. Everything is disputable ..especially religious blind faith.

Excuse me? When have I ever tried to overrun your choices, or whatever it is you're attempting to imply?

your vote and lobby has integrated church and state...that is not respecting my freedoms or choices. Roe vs Wade is a perfect example....and you know this but I'm not implying anything...I give you freedom of choice but don't vote or lobby against mine or anyone else's who doesn't subscribe to your personal relationship with Jesus. As I said....you're not going to understand the complexity of a true democracy given your track record of cheering for bad leadership. You have not addressed the most important issue facing the country today..the insurrection of your party against the peaceful transfer of power....when it comes to real change and challenges at the highest level....your best representatives get no support yet Herschel Walker and Clarence Thomas do....you need to cheer for Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger ....the last honest republicans in DC...yet you just don't. Jesus has nothing to fucking do with it....it's your responsibility. When your vote goes after civil rights, which it is targeting...then the gloves come off....next gay marriage and interracial marriage will be rolled back. GOP....the new Americantaliban. The GOP can go fuck itself. You can tell Jesus Riverman said so!
