Donovan Mitchell and Brunson would be a worse pairing than dame and cj lol

Why's that? Doesn't Mitchell actually play defense?

Not much better than... You guessed it. CJ. Well at least in Portland. Sample size is small for New Orleans but CJ did much better there.

Brunson is an above average defender. According to Synergy, he was an elite isolation defender and rated very good overall. I get that people are concerned about back court heights, but Brunson and Mitchell would be a better version of Conley and Mitchell the last couple years.

True but let's not forget that a large number of fans wanted to tear that early '90s team apart the summer before they went to the finals against Detroit. They wanted to trade Clyde instead of building around him. Thankfully they simply traded Bowie for Buck and Walter Berry for Duck and everything clicked.

if Utah is expecting a Gobert like trade package, I just don't see that out there. Miami doesn't have the kind of assets, Toronto doesn't either unless they part with guy who they love, BK can't unless they send out Simmons, the only destination that both wants Donovan and has assets is NY.

And Ainge only makes moves if he's winning the deals outright.

I don't think he gets traded this summer.

You mean, the summer he turned 27, before he had even reached his athletic prime? Yeah, that would have been pretty ridiculous.

Knicks have 4 firsts in '23 alone. I could absolutely see them making an overpay offer for Mitchell that Ainge would feel he was winning outright. Especially if they're willing to give up Barrett/Toppin (which they shouldn't, IMO).

Mad scientist Ainge about to implode a contending Utah team that was a tweak away, IMO. I just don't get it. I know there was friction between Mitchell and Gobert, but c'mon. He got a bunch of role players in return, and draft capital that will likely be latter end of 1st round. I can't believe he couldn't have added a John Collins, and similar draft capital to bring to Utah. Utah, already tough to bring in high end talent, could become a doormat if Mitchell is traded. Jazz fans MUST be up in arms over this scenario.

people romanticize drastic rebuilds and acquiring draft picks these days. And while Ainge absolutely did get a ridiculous overpay from Minny, Utah did have the best record in the league just two seasons ago. I think they overreacted to their playoff flameouts. They'll recover in 4 yrs with all the unprotected picks but i dunno how open that market is for a bottoming out period like they're about to experience.

    Hmm... I don't think that's right.

Clyde was like 24 when the Blazers got Duck and 27 when we got Buck. The internet wasn't around then, but I can't imagine anyone was clamoring for the Blazers to trade him after three seasons and even at 27 why would anyone have wanted us to trade our best player?

Portland traded a bit too long to trade Drexler in my opinion... getting Thorpe and a first rounder wasn't great return, but at least we didn't hold on until he was altogether done at age 35.

I don't see those picks being that great. If none are Lotto picks, which i doubt any of Minny's will be, how good are they really.

Thorpe was trash by the time he became a Blazer. That was a garbage trade.

I was wrong about Duck, he did come earlier. But I am not wrong about the attitude of many fans following a losing season. (88-89) It was the summer of 89 when we got Buck. Clyde was 27 and it was not the internet I was referring to. I was in outside sales at the time and listened to local sports talk radio all day long while driving. The crazy ass fans calling in all day long wanting to trade Clyde was idiotic.

I worked with people who wanted Clyde traded . I was like ,you're nuts. I hated that trade, and was right. It was a trash trade. But i've grown less fond of Clyde the former Blazer, and Rocket Licker, in recent years. I will always appreciate Clyde's great contributions while he was a Blazer. But he hasn't seemed to relish playing in Portland that much.

If Ainge, does trade Mitchell, he's a moron. That caliber of player doesn't come around very often. But leaking it out , he's for the taking, probably has Mitchell saying Up yours. Dumpster fire in progress.

Not my recollection of early 90s Blazer fan attitudes at all. I was in college and people were nuts about them throughout Clyde’s 20s. Random girls would start conversations with me about the Blazers. We’d regularly gather large group watch parties around midweek mid season games. Blazer mania is my recollection.

Unless Mitchell isn't what he seems to be.....off the court. That is all I can think of. If players hate playing with him you might as well get rid of him while his stock is high.
