Minstrel you want to double check me on this bro? I was using info from Larry Coon's FAQ as well. I read that as they only needed to match the first-year actual salary, which they can do with the MLE. Anyone?
that's how i understood it as well. this allows his current team to match and also keeps the player from being able to get a huge salary before a first round draft pick is able to.
Perhaps so. Crimson felt that a third-year increase in salary would push it out of Milwaukee's range and my quick glance at the FAQ, I felt that he was right. But I think I probably interpreted it wrongly.
it's possible that you correct. i guess we'll find out in the offseason if a team with cap room tries to sign sessions.
Where would Joel Freeland go in this draft? He's developing very quickly and he's one of the most productive players in Europe per-48. He's an athletic 6'11" (255 lb) big. Considering how weak this class is, would he go lotto?
I freely admit I've never seen a single game of his ever, but considering he was drafted in the first round on nothing but 'potential' two years ago and is now very productive in a very good Euro league, I guess you'd have to consider him as a possible lotto guy.
Yup and I don't see how they let him slip away. Granted the Bucks have a lot of large salaries with Bogut, Redd and Jefferson, not to mention if they keep CV3. "Sessions" would look good on a Blazer uni though.
Maybe we can trade for Sessions and Jefferson this summer, though we'd surely have to give up Bayless. I like Bayless a lot, but Sessions has shown a whole lot already too. Except for 3-point shooting.... Session is going to be the next Andre Miller. Maybe we can work out a sign and trade though. That wouldn't give the Bucks the cap relief though. There's no way to trade for Jefferson and a resigned Sessions....can't make the salaries match. Oh shit. We won't have to since we're under the CAP!!!!!! Sent out Blake/TO/Bayless....anything else? A couple of 2nd round picks? Kevin Pritchard (or his assistant), if you're reading this feel free to contact me with a job offer so I'll stop coming up with creative ways of improving the team and letting the cat out of the bag!!!! Sessions/Sergio Roy/Rudy Jefferson/Batum/Webster LMA/? (Hansbrough? / Freeland?) Oden/Pryzbilla I like.
Sure, but I'm not sure that Blair will be around. Unless we trade up, which is certainly a possibility. But in the early 20's, I think he'll already be gone... I wouldn't mind it. I have love for the short guys who out muscle and work taller players. At the gym I tend to be tall but not THAT tall (6'1") and thus a lot of times I guard players who are taller than me or who play down low. As a result, I've gotten good at reading the ball to position for rebounds and can be effective against taller players. Granted, I'm not built like a bus with wide shoulders, but I still appreciate the shorter guy (basketball wise...I hate guys with small man's complex) who hustles. So yeah. Make it happen.
Great franchises add to their core with late first round/2nd round draft picks every year. The draft will always be important. If we can pick up a guy like Blair in the late first round it will be huge.
There is a lot better options out there in the range we'll be drafting in. Some team will make a huge mistake and draft that guy way too early.
It just depends on what they want. What if they asked for TO/Rudy/Bayless for Sessions/Jefferson? Or factor Webster in somewhere due to his cheap contract. Who know's what they'd want and we'll give them. But we are still unique with a lot of cheap contracts, the ability to take on more contract in a trade than we send out (no need for exact matching) and a team that is ready to win tomorrow. Due to sign and trades, it might mean we have to wait until after the draft (July 1st) to make the transaction happen, but I wouldn't be surprised to see something in place on draft day. Whether or not we know would be another factor.
I think him getting drafted where the Blazers will pick (spots 22-25) won't be too high for him. It just depends. He's the kind of guy who, if he was a second-rounder or even late-first, would only add fuel to his fire. He'll never be the best athlete, but he is pretty intense and will be willing to bang. That being said, I'd rather have Blair. But I bet he goes higher.
