<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Locke:</div><div class="quote_post">Toronto media are leaning towards the Raptors trading the pick for a role player and a lower pick. Could we possibly trade a veteran and pick 8 and gain the number one pick? Not that we have anyone valuable to give up (is Stro enough?), but getting the number one would give us a lot of flexibility and maybe draft Aldridge or Morrison.

If I had a say though, I'd say stay put at 8th and pick Shelden Williams.</div>

If that would be the senerio and we do give up our 8th pick and a role player (although I highly doubt it), I would rather give up Howard than Stromile becuase Howard had that shoplifting incident and his shooting is somewhat inconsistent. With the number one pick we can replace howard with a more reliable shooting PF ---> Andrea Bargani.

We really don't have a say in that, in my opinion. If that scenario comes up, its what the Raptors want really.

Whoa whoa I'd pick lamarcus Aldridge over Bargani any day. Still if we get that high pick...I say draft Rudy Gay and start Chuck Hayes at PF.

I like Chuck Hayes, but if we started him we'd be back in the lottery next season. I'm not really familiar with college bball, but I've seen Reddick play and he's gonna be another undersized SG which don't need. Rudy Gay seems like a pretty good fit.

Heres what i hate about shelden. He is undersized and if we put him at the 4, then it will load us up with power forwards. Chuck could play the 3 but not a good one.

our PF situation would be: Howard/Swift/Hayes/Williams

Shelden Williams is a bit undersized, and even though he's ripped like crazy, his height will keep him at a disadvantage, IMO. Of course, someone's gonna bust out with a "Charles Barkley-esque" comment, and maybe Sheldon is that player, but the Rockets don't really need a banger at the 4 anymore. Yao has his own presence, we need to spread the floor out more and take advantage of that presence. I'd like a player that does that well and can create his own shot. If Gay is available, let's all go homo -- Carney or Roy as well, though I think Roy is a better player, Carney has been working out with McGrady. I was VERY high on Marcus Williams, but I am not sure if it is wise to have a Rookie point guard with Yao and T-Mac, but a wing player is not bad. If Morrison (some draft had us getting him?!), Bargiani, or Gay is available, I am sure the Rockets go after them. Bargiani gives us a 4 that can shoot, and he would be excellent trade bait if he were to develop. Morrison is a good 3, and we could move McGrady back to the 2 (though I am not an ardent supporter of this), Morrison hits the 3 well and definitely is a legit 3rd scorer. I would like it if we could trade DOWN (maybe NO's picks?). They'd be guarenteed a good player, and we'd still have a good shot at the Duke kids (Williams, Redick -- he will be a Mike Miller/6th man player). I also like Jordan Farmar out of UCLA, can't decide if him or Marcus Williams is my personal favorite. Farmar looks for his teammates first, and can score as well. But he is pretty young, but he may mature under good coaching.

People say this isn't a "good draft", but I do feel it is balanced of some sort, you have your high risk - high reward guys, and your guys that have just been solid throughout. I think the Rockets can't really go wrong here, or atleast, I'd hope not.

BTW, has JBB been down for anyone else but me? I couldn't get on for the past 4-5 days.

The main difference between Rudy Gay and Brandon Roy(which no one feels is for discussion anywhere on the internet) is:

    - Roy is more likely to contribute right away because of experience and because he was the main guy on his team. Gay was probably the second to third option so he has no experience taking over a game in which he can easily do.

-Roy has more experience PERIOD. This experience will carry over while Gay is just a sophmore.

-Roy has that desire to play the game and while Gay has it to..Roy uses his to motivate himself. You can't really blame Gay because afterall UConn annialated teams without trying most of the year.

-Gay on the other hand will develop into the better player. He is progressing much faster than anyone in this draft. Although both player's defensive skills are about the same, Gay is going to be more dominant.

-Gay fits more into certain systems. Because JVG is more defensive minded and we have our two big stars. Gay is practically gauranteed to be a solid third option. Im gauranteeing his success with us for 2 reasons. Gay can do almost anything on the court...shoot...passs...block shots. With open lanes and being open becasue of double team on tmac and yao, he'll get his 9-14 ppg.
