your wit is so sharp. The point was MM was assigning ridiculous positions to me so I returned the favor STOMP
Oh I know. It's certainly not 100%, but I think you have to start there. Led their team to the title run in their 30's? Hmm, I'm not sure? But the better question....the highest paid player as a PG, that is a tough one. I am thinking as I type, and can't come up with one. He's not the highest, but Tony Parker? He's about the closest I can think of. Damon was up there. Not that either led their teams though. Wade maybe? Maybe a good question to ask is what position over the last 20 years has "led" their team to the finals most? Going from last year back Dirk....Lebron maybe? Kobe....Garnett? Kobe....D Howard Pierce....Kobe Parker....Lebron Wade....Nowitzki Billups....Shaq? Duncan....Kidd Shaq....Kidd Shaq....Iverson Shaq....Miller Duncan....Ewing Jordan....Stockton or Malone? Jordan....Stockton or Malone? Jordan....Payton Hakeem....Shaq Hakeem....Ewing Jordan....Barkley Jordan....Drexler Jordan....Johnson So I will split Stockton and Malone and give them one point each PG = 8 SG = 12 SF = 3 PF = 7 C = 10 So science has spoken. SG, followed by C is the most important position to have a stud at, while the least important is SF. I am officially off the Williams bandwagon for now
Is Wes a good fit next to Dragic? IMO, I think finding a legit starting caliber SG should be next on the list. cough Bradley Beal! cough
I don't think there has been one since Magic. Parker was paid 9.4M in 2006-7 which was dwarfed by Timmy's 17.5. Damon never won a championship and Wade (who was making 3M when the Heat won) is an SG, so neither qualifies. while I agree with the general conclusions of your study, I'd question your PG data. Allan Iverson was never a PG and neither was Wade. The stats sure don't say Tony Parker led the Spurs in 2007 (reference link) & that Billups Piston championship club is usually characterized as having 5 quality players rather then a single standout superstar. Ben Wallace was their only All-Star and was also the only Piston named to one of the All NBA teams. STOMP
I took the MVP of the winning team. Parker and Billups were it, so they counted. I didn't include Wade as a PG, but did include AI. And I always go for play for title rather than win because once you are there anything can happen
it's your scientific study, so you get to design the methodology. I would have gone with the best player as the one who led the team to the title, but whatever.... the greater point is that spending top dollar on a PG might not be PDX's golden ticket to the finals. There are a lot more top skilled athletes at 6'1 then 6'10, and thats where supply and demand kicks in. I'd rather spread the money through the roster on solid up and coming players then put it all into one established stud. STOMP
I still think you have to have that stud. However after the in depth extremely scientific study, I have come to the conclusion that it shouldn't be a PG. Solid doesn't usually win, IMO. I think you need to get that stud to compete for a title. That said, according to my vast research that Blazer could do a lot worse than drafting Drummond and Lamb, Beal or whichever SG they think has the tools to be an elite level player, while spending their dollars on Dragic and someone like Elyasova.
