I'm with you but don't ask about this game alone but ask what happens when Arizona, Cal, and Stanford come up. This is not looking good. Helfrich was hired to get us through the sanctions because he was likeable and marketable and not a "GREAT" coach; in which is what at this point in the collegases stage is what they need. Simple; we need a big time coach for big time windows and we are in that big time window.
I'm not happy with Helfrich but i'm not going to toss him out until we lose that game we shouldn't have lost or until we just look horrible vs a great team. So i'm assuming sometime this year is when i'll toss him under the bus.
We are missing the "SWAG" of coach Kelly. Those who want to default then I offer coach Bellotii. Those who want to default from those then "Fuck-off" Bellotti and Kelly knew how to handle the risky and hard to handle difference makers. We should not be sweating this game and it's not on the players mistake' this is squarely a coaching issue.
That was close. Way too close. But our O-line was patchwork and we won on the road. Here's to Jake Fisher and Andre getting back!
Right. Because there is no such as a thing as winning a game as close as it should have been. Not trying to be a debbie-downer but Helfrich seems to go out of his way to lower his expectations and its not out of realm of understanding to comprhend why this game was far closer than what it should have been. Helfrich is the 5th best coach in the PAC-12. Pretty lame.
I don't think anyone will argue that Kelly isn't a better coach. I miss our lethal run game. We have 3 "good" backs but we need that elite one, we need that Jonathan Stewart, LeGarette Blount, or LaMichael James/Kenjon Barner. We just don't have the "it" factor anymore either. Mariota is prolific but he can only do so much.
As a fan, I would be esstatic to pass the eye-ball test. Helfrich, Frost, need to go. I have more faith in DP that any of those but I wouldn't take him as a HC. This is one of those game where there's a loss within a win.
All im saying is im not into firing someone whos perceived screw ups havent cost us anything yet. Once he does something worth being fired im all down with going in a different direction.
The silver lining is this team showed they can win a close one in a trap game. The next two weeks better be dedicated to getting healthy up front and getting the run game going because that's Oregon football, running the ball and then releasing the hounds through the air once the D creeps up.
