Nice to see USC get their shit tossed. I’ll root for any Pac 12 team but them. I think my hatred stems back to the Keyshawn Johnson days
taken yesterday... I'm reading that they aren't expected to lose any more coaches but one of their better commits, CB Caleb Presley of Seattle is likely to flip to UW STOMP
not if Colorado doesn't commit to, and invest in, substantial NIL. So far, they have been like Cal/Stanford in that regard. The combo of NIL and the transfer portal has created a new-world-order in power-5 football. If a school is not fully engaged in NIL at a competitive level, they are going to struggle to compete against the major programs.
Deion's likely got enough contacts of his own that he'll be able to drum up his own NIL boosters if the Uni doesn't.
it's not official yet but it looks like Lanning is hiring Will Stein, of UTSA, as his new OC. Looks like a clone of Kenny Dillingham. he's 33 and was a QB at Louisville; has lots of connections in Texas. Looks like a really good hire if you use Dillingham as the gauge if Bo Nix doesn't come back next season, keep the name of Hudson Card in mind. A QB for Texas who's in the transfer portal; Stein coached him in high school ********************************************************************* by the way, seems to be a lot of smoke behind the notion that the Ducks who have entered the transfer portal so far are being 'processed' by the coaching staff; in effect they have been told that there would be no playing time for them next season. Thornton is the only exception to that and he has some family issues
Justin Flowe has entered the portal. Not really a significant loss considering he's been a massive disappointment as a 5-star LB Cristobal certainly brought in a lot of 4-star and 5-star busts
Lanning wants speed, speed, and more speed. You have to be able to drop into coverage when needed. Flowe could not
that, and the massive failure by the defense this season will compel the Ducks to look to the portal. Need have space for the recruiting class + transfers. They got Nix, Irving, Whittington, and Cota from the portal this season and those guys helped transform the offense. The defense brought in Gonzalez, Jordan Riley, and Casey Rogers. Rogers and Riley came on strong toward the end of the season, but Gonzo is going to the NFL
Yeah, I am surprised by that. He has a history of injuries, why chance it after a great year? They must be paying him well to do so.
well, right now there's a decent chance that Nix will come back. Lanning said that Nix wants to play in the bowl game. If he's determined to go the NFL draft in 6 months, playing in that bowl game is a big risk. On the other hand, if he's thinking of returning for another season... Nix is projected for the 5th round. That's not an attractive draft slot. The salary starts at around 650K with a 4 year contract. But, unlike the NBA, not all of that is guaranteed. In fact, only the signing bonus is guaranteed, and that might be in the 175K range if the Ducks were to guarantee Nix 700K-900K in NIL, along with a solid insurance-against-injury policy, hee'd likely find that pretty attractive, especially considering that the 2024 QB draft class is projected to be quite a bit weaker than this one (there's a rumor that Nix got well more than 500K in NIL this year) if Penix is coming back, he probably got a good NIL deal, and Penix is projected as a 3rd-4th round pick
by the way, this was the first official' day of the transfer portal and by noon more than 1000 players had entered the portal here's the video:
Yeah I thought about that scenario with Bo too. Didn't Penix have a couple of severe injuries at Indiana? NIL can really change a players strategy, I guess.
