I remember when I was growing up Alabama wasnt very good. They were dominant before my time and then as an adult. Anyone remember the Mike Price debacle?

Ducks land a 5'10 200 lb Safety/Nickel from the transfer portal via Ole Miss named Tysheem Johnson. He's still got 2 years of eligibility left after being a 2 year starter for the Rebels

Tell the players you don’t want anymore that they can transfer or have their scholarship pulled

it is legal, kind of, in a certain circumstance. When a new head coach is hired, an NCAA rule says he has 18 months to 'restructure the scholarship allotment'....or words to that effect. The power-5 conferences reached an agreement to make scholarships a 4 year deal, but apparently that is a an agreement subordinate the 18 month rule

prior to the latest transfer, the Ducks were at 90 scholarships; so now, 91. There's another transfer window in the spring too and that's has been a very active window the last 2 or 3 years

it is also apparently legal....'apparently'....to remove a player from scholarship but award him an NIL package that offsets the loss of a scholarship and other costs. I think we will start to hear about that becoming common

The inbalance between defensive and offensive scholarship players is wild.

From my understanding during the 18 month window that a new coach can has available to restructure the roster, they can also take guys off the team but allow them to keep going to school on a full ride honoring the 4 year terms of the scholarship they signed.

The window for players entering the transfer portal closed mid-January but the next window opens in May. Guys who're going to enter that next portal might announce they're transferring prior to that, but they won't actually be in it until it opens.

From my count they've lost 12 offensive guys to the portal and 10 defensive. Conversely they've gained 4 offensive guys from the portal and 6 defensive. For the incoming 2023 class they add 12 on O and 16 on D.

Of course many more guys will be entering the portal in May and they may be adding to the 2023 class on the 2nd signing day February 1st. Relaying reports that they had a great in home last weekend with Nycholes Harbor (who recently ran the 5th fastest HS 200 meter dash ever) that included Track Coach Jerry Schumacher as well as Lanning and Co. from the football side.

I believe the scholarship distribution is the 36 on offense and 52 on defense range at the moment (plus 3 special teams). Obviously players will have to leave. Though you really don't want to be under 40 scholarship players on either side if you can help it.

at this point in time, I believe there are 38 on offense if you assign kickers & long snappers to offense and punters to defense. That might seem unbalanced but there may be some mitigating factors

one is the head coach and his experience...that being that successful SEC teams tend to have at least 55% of their slots devoted to defense. I also remember reading a study from 3 or 4 years ago that concluded that a majority of injuries and missed games occurred on the defensive side of the ball, at least it did on the NCAA level. Don't know about the NFL. IIRC, the most common defensive injuries were neck & shoulder; and there were more concussions on defense as well. I guess logically that makes sense

anyway, it terms of depth it probably makes sense to play a numbers game favoring defense. That side of the ball was certainly the weaker side for the Ducks, and Lanning certainly seems to be overloading the DLine and Edge....which is the strength of the defense and a common focus in the SEC

the Ducks are still hoping for commitments from Nycholas Harbor and Roderick Pleasant and both players have said they prefer offense. And both players are wanting to participate in T&F. It's doubtful the Ducks can land both; but they may very well sign one, and he's probably be offense

I think there will be a lot of transition in the spring transfer portal

Canzano would still need to figure out to make the article about him somehow... but we know he would be able to do it!
