I don't listen to country music. Which explains why I have no fucking clue who this is, or why I should give two shits about him.
Ok I found a song of his that I know. The thing that I have noticed about country music is that most of the singers sound exactly the same, with the exception of a few, and a lot of the time I know a song but have no clue who the hell sings it. There's a few who have really distinctive voices, but for the most part there's a bunch of dudes that sound almost identical. A lot of the women sound similar as well, but I actually like female country singers more than male country singers. Maren Morris, Miranda Lambert, Carry Underwood off the top of my head.
The only Country, Western singer that I ever liked was Marty Robbins. Marty Robbins - El Paso Marty Robbins - Big Iro
I do know a really good rap song. The rest can go on the dung heap. Idris Elba - The Road Less Travelled
I remember going to a Marty Robbins museum when visiting Nashville a number of years ago. (I lived in Atlanta at the time). It's no longer here. I saw there's a museum for him in Arizona, though. Marty loved to race cars. He was actually a NASCAR driver at one time. I remember there were one or two of his cars at the museum. https://www.wideopencountry.com/marty-robbins-nascar-career/
I remember watching "the life and times of Marty Robbins" on TNN (back when it was TNN and not...um...paramount network now? I think?). totally burned the candle at both ends.
Something I learned today about Marty. He wrote a song that was deemed too political in nature, and his record company refused to release it. Actually kind of a good song. And by todays standards, kind of tame.
Never heard of him either. but I was dragged to a concert at the Gorge two years ago, forget who the guy was, but if you are ever wondering "how the hell did Trump win an election", just find your nearest country festival/concert. Yikes.
I moved to Nashville for one reason.....and one reason only. (BTW, this pic was taken at Timberline Lodge when she visited Portland.)
