Oh HELL NO Rockets' Dwight Howard has bone marrow injection to knee The latest news on Dwight Howard’s knee is not good at all “The problem was my cartilage was wearing down, and it’s been wearing down because I’ve been playing basketball for a very long time,” said Howard at that time. “When you have the bone rubbing on bone, it brings a lot of pain.” When there’s a cartilage issue in the knee and the words “bone on bone” are used, microfracture surgery is always feared.
We don't need another player with a bum knee along with a bad back. We've had our share of injured players. We, as fans, suffered enough of that.
Even he said it. His knee is bone on bone. We've seen this movie before and there is no alternate ending.
One of your links also says this though... So who should I believe a Doctor? or a Basketball player. UPDATE: While it’s still clear there has been some cartilage loss in Dwight’s knee, Dr. Walter Lowe did provide that optimism, speaking with local Fox’s Mark Berman to provide some context on why they went forward with the procedure. It’s a biologically active injection that helps almost everything heal in the knee. We took some bone marrow out of his pelvis. It gives us some young, very strong platelets with a lot of healing factors. I think his prognosis is great. This is something we did today to try to hasten the recovery time. It’s really a shot. It’s not a surgical procedure. It’s a 20 minute deal. I don’t think it’s a big deal. We want to do everything we can to give Dwight the best chance of being back as fast as he can be back. The other side of that is we want him to feel like Dwight and be one hundred percent when he comes back. This sort of mixes those two things together. I think he would get well even without this today. We’re really treating this like a bone bruise. There is nothing structurally wrong with his knee. That soreness is what we’re trying to get rid of. So we’re really basically treating a bone bruise. The time frame for these bone bruises to heal is in that 4-6 week timeframe. The most important thing for Dwight is his pain (to be) gone. That’s more important than what the MRI is going to show me in four weeks. As long as we’re seeing a combination of bone bruise gone away (and) symptoms being better, then that’s when we’ll start the transition back to the court. What makes this heal is essentially rest. I would certainly expect him before the playoffs. I hope we have quite a few games before the playoffs. I really expect him to recover and play again this season.”
That was a year ago and the quote by the doctor that did the procedure sounded pretty optimistic: "It’s a biologically active injection that helps almost everything heal in the knee. Chris Paul doesn't dunk or block shots either. He also has no chance of the Blazers. And I'll see your Chris Paul and raise you a Brandon Roy.
I'm also well aware what this websites rep is but.. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...00-percent-when-houston-rockets-need-him-most Does say that a Doctor said... Howard was wrong to say his knee was bone on bone. The pain is from coming back too early, and that Howard has never had a procedure to remove cartilage. So I'll believe a Doctor before I believe a player.
I stumbled across something very interesting the other day. Take a look at these stats for Dwight over the 3 years in Houston. FGA per game 11.3 10.3 (-1) 8.5 (-1.8) Total Change -2.8 FG% .591 .593 .620 Total Change +.029 USG% 24.0 23.3 18.4 Total Change -5.6 All of his other stats have stayed pretty level. Here's another interesting set of numbers FGA per Game 16.5 18.1 (+0.6) 19.7 (+1.6) Total change +2.2 USG% 27.8 31.3 (+3.5) 32.5 (+1.2) Total Change +4.7 That set is the same years, but for James Harden. Even the stats support that Dwight's numbers have declined the last 3 seasons probably in large part to lack of getting the ball.
Well, as I've said before, he's not a guy that I think the Blazers should be targeting this summer. He'd be a last resort move to me.
I'm pretty sure that Microfracture is now considered obsolete for athletes as it was determined to be kind of a comfort fix for people who don't use their knees for sports or work.
Looks like the last NBA player to have Microfracture SUrgery while still an active player was Tracy McGrady in 2009... 8 years ago.
If we're looking for a washed up shotblocker, I'm sure the Suns would be happy to unload Tyson Chandler.
Yes,........sign him........IF * Durant and Lebron have signed elsewhere * Whiteside and Horford and Derozen have said no and signed elsewhere * Pistons have matched on Drummond If all these things haven't gone our way....then yes, sign him.
I don't want the blazers to sign him, but I won't freak out and threaten to stop watching the team or anything if they do.
