Funny, he carried a team to the finals didn't he? So what if he didn't get along with Kobe, the city of Los Angeles, and James Harden? He didn't handle his orlando exit very well, true, but I also don't blame him for wanting, or thinking he needed bigger things at that age.
That IS funny, u think he single handedly did that? Just to throw out 1 thing that got them there... there was some1... IDK... some guy named... Jameer Nelson that had a little more than a ton to do w/ that happening too.
Dwight Howard refused to run the PnR with Steve Nash. Steve MF Nash. On that premise alone I say no. It's tempting sure, b/c of the talent that he is, but there's nothing about his game that lines up with the Blazers. Demands to be force fed. No longer the interior defensive presence he once was. Stupidly expensive. Known head case. The negatives here outweigh the positives way too much.
THANK YOU sir! Talk some sense into these ppl, they're not listening to the obvious/reason/truth. Dan... u da man!
Do the Blazers become more attractive to another marquee free agent if they have D12 in the fold this summer?
No, he may also actually deter a FA from coming here bc the opportunities may b less attractive (i.e. PT etc.).
Funny that you blame Houston's struggles all on Howard but don't have any problem praising supporting players when his team was successful. Cool. And yes he was the best player on that team. Not jameer Nelson.
Not all, actually they haven't been giving him the ball for a long time now; only recently & every once in awhile do they; Hou. problems run deeper vs. D-Bag12 alone BUT when u DO feed him a bunch... YES I AM blaming him almost exclusively for losses/failure. Didn't say he wasn't the best/most talented player; what I AM saying is that he's not THE main/only reason why they did what they did AND u DO need to give credit to the team/system for their success, that's all.
You're talking about 27-year-old, full-of-himself Dwight Howard and 38-year-old, post-broken-leg, basically-ineffectual Steve Nash? Yeah, I'm not sure if that's completely relevant at this point, especially if Howard has been humbled by his experiences in LA and Houston. I don't know about the "demanding to be force fed" part (seems speculative), but even if he's not the interior defensive presence he once was, he's still more of an interior defensive presence and rim protector than anyone else we currently have. As for his cost, considering the salary floor issue, it would actually cost fewer real dollars to trade for him than not to. If we could obtain him--essentially for a 28-game evaluation period--for Kaman + not much else, there would be very little downside.
Howard's not real useful in the P&R. What's he going to do, shoot from 15' if his man doubles Nash? I can easily see him doing exactly what Plums does for us, only much better at it all (except passing). If we involve him enough on offense, he gets you easy/close baskets (look at his FG%) or demands a double team. His DRtg is still really good. I think he'll be playing like he has for the past 3-4 years for the next 3-4, assuming he's happy.
The gambler in me is intrigued by the slim chance, but miniscule chances aside I get the feeling it wouldn't end well. On the other hand lets say all it took was Leonard and Kaman and another sweetener (Crabbe or whomever) I'd take the 5% chance it all magically works out. Roll them bones if you can.
Same but I'm guessing Houston would want as much cap space as possible for the summer. Leonard/Kaman/draft picks?
