I thought I had. There were five players (IIRC) that were mentioned specifically, and Howard was the only "automatic no" on the list...
Lakers dealt for him and he told them he would not sign a long term contract extension. http://www.sbnation.com/nba/2012/8/...d-trade-los-angeles-lakers-contract-extension Dwight Howard is reportedly on his way to the Los Angeles Lakers in a blockbuster trade, but that doesn't mean he has made a firm commitment long-term to the franchise just yet. Howard will not sign a long-term contract extension with the Lakers right now, preferring instead to test free agency, according to ESPN's Marc Stein.
Dwight sucks... This guy is way better.... PUPPY MONKEY BABY!!!! PUPPYMONKEYBABY PUPPYMONKEYBABY PUPPYMONKEYBABY PUPPYMONKEYBABY PUPPYMONKEYBABY
None of the players traded in similar situations signed extensions; same reason LaMarcus didn't sign an extension, the player gets so much more waiting until their a free agent. The Lakers thought Dwight would sign long term, just as the Cavs thought Love would sign long term when they traded Wiggins for him. The Heat thought Dragic would sign with them. Love and Dragic resigned, Howard left. These things aren't binding and players can change their decisions on a whim. There isn't any scenario the Blazers can trade for Dwight Howard and have assurance he signs here as you stipulated.
It's an open question as to whether the idea of a "FA destination" is antiquated. Looking at Denny's link and all of the top tier FAs signed with their own teams, except LMA. If we ignore the LMAs and the Dwight Howards, we might say that most all non-bitch top tier UFAs sign with their own team in the post-Lillard-Shoe-Deal era. LAL and NY would love it if all of the top tier FAs demanded to play for their teams, like the "good old days." When was the last time those teams signed any top tier FAs that weren't their own? So, it's more a matter of what mid-tier FAs do.
They traded for him knowing he wouldn't sign an extension. He let all the teams know who he would sign with. http://espn.go.com/blog/chicago/bulls/post/_/id/9685/source-bulls-were-in-howard-talks-till-end What remains unclear is whether the Bulls would have executed a deal even if Hennigan had taken back a package centered on Noah and Deng. From the beginning of last season, it seemed that Howard wanted to be dealt to a select number of teams, and the Bulls were not on that list. They never got a clear sense of whether Howard would sign an extension with the Bulls and would embrace playing alongside Rose. His preference always appeared to be going to the Brooklyn Nets or, most recently, the Lakers. Any potential Howard deal with the Bulls became even trickier because Howard, who has stated through agent Dan Fegan that he won't sign an extension with any team that acquires him... Love: http://www.sportingnews.com/nba-new...ut-salary-sam-smith-lebron-james-kyrie-irving The Cleveland Cavaliers traded for Kevin Love based on a handshake deal that served as assurance he would sign a five-year max contract and stay long term.
It's funny you of all people would say such a thing. You don't even know the guy or what or if there were many other issues involved in his prior deals. If what you have is what you have heard in the media you have nothing. I personally could not hold what i know about the man as enough info to call him a Douchebag.
He always plays his best offensive games against us, and it looked like he was the only Rocket on the court congratulating our guys after the game tonight?
Yeah and he was dappin it up with fans. He probably regrets leaving orlando and Portland is a similar smaller market town he would thrive in. I know he's friendly with Lillard as well. If we can rent him for some draft picks or something, why not?
Yeah, but Durant had the best workout in the history of workouts for us, so Dwight's audition probably fell on deaf ears. We'll trade for HaCapella instead.
