I think Dwight's main problem now is his turnovers, he commits way too many, and of course having a jumpshot would help that since he would be more useful on the pick and pop and can be in more catch and shoot situations through that where he doesn't have to create his own shot. There's never anything wrong with adding more areas to your game. If Dwight was putting up 25 PPG or something, then of course, not much complaints, but that's not the situation, him being hard to guard right now is only getting him 17-18 PPG.
Dwight is not used to really being criticized. Of course he is stunned by KG's comment. KG speaks the truth. Dwight is a good player, but if he ever wants to become great, he will need more variety.

If he can get 13-14 shots a game and get his free throw shooting up to about 80% he should easily be averaging 25 pts/gm.

While I'm sure Dwight will improve, he wouldn't necessarily average 25 points right NOW in an efficient manner. His FT% is 60 and 80% will be a stretch for him. The possibility also exists that he could have efficiently averaged 25 points a game this season, but there weren't enough ball possessions, which means that his PER wouldn't have increased much anyway.
Well if you turn the ball over 4 times a game and you aren't getting many touches, aren't averaging 10+ assists, and aren't putting up big points, something is very wrong there. First of all it means you're giving away a lot of posessions when you do get the ball, so if he got more touches their's the same way he is now, he will increase in turnovers. I don't want to see him taking 15 FGA/G, shooting 60% FG, but averaging 4.5 TPG. I like Dwight a lot, but there is usually some reasoning as to why guys don't get as many touches outside of the coach hating him and his teammates being idiots. Your teammates will also not always want to give you the ball if you give it away so much. Dwight's turnover rate is quite high, let's not kid ourselves here. He leads all players we can possible consider good by a good margin. A very high turnover rate is usually a characteristic of the role player big men in the league, because they get many turnovers from things like 3-in the key, travels, being stripped, on few posessions with the ball, and aren't producing enough offensively to counter that. Just so you know what I mean, the worst turnover rate players in the league look like this: ( [24+] Przybilla - Diop - [19+] Dwight - Dampier - K.Perkins - [17+] Alonzo - Curry - [16+] Kwame - Chandler - Dalmbert - E.Thomas - Kirilenko - [15+] Bynum - Pachulia - Kaman ) Kirilenko is the out of place guy there in this horrible season for him. You realize none of those guys in the list outside of Dwight and Curry are scorers, and Curry's turnover rate is 2 lower than Dwights. Here are the guys we'd like to put Howard with as an offensive big man: Amare (14.0) - Yao (13.7) - Shaq (12.1) - Duncan (11.9) - JO (11.8) - Gasol (11.6) - Randolph (11.6) - Boozer (11.3) - A.Jefferson (11.2) - Brand (10.9) - Okafor (10.6) - Bosh (10.4) The young guys in his range are even some of the best ones, A.Jefferson, Bosh, Okafor. Dwight's turnover rate is 19.6, the closest guy here to that is Yao at 14.0, that's a big jump. So while Howard needs touches, he needs to make improvements that will allow him to be able to get them. Adding a jumpshot is one thing, he can get shot attempts off the pick and roll, and in a drive and dish if he isn't close enough to dunk he can shoot the jumpshot. I'm not going to expect him to learn to put the ball on the floor like a Bosh or Amare, so that's fine. Of course improving his FT shooting would also add more PPG. I mean there's many things without going into the specific, being effective with the post and re-post etc etc...
Dwights turnover rate is very simular to alot of young big men who are now all stars hes still will likely finish the season well below Shaq's rookie mark of turnovers and really this should only be Dwight junior year of college. Dwight is only going to improve his turnover rate, most of which are BS flopp calls just look at the suns game this year he fouled out on 5 flopps and 1 legit call. If the league puts the "flopp" rule in like they are talking about dwights turnovers should probly be cut almost in half.
I have been very impressed with his ability to find an open man on a double team. That has been his biggest improvement during the season, IMO. The majority of his turnovers are when he tries dribbling into the paint. He gets the occasional charge, but for the most part from what I've seen the majority of his turnovers are his trying to dribble into the lane where all the traffic is. I think part of the problem is that when he does get the ball he wants to make something happen right away. It's like he thinks to himself that this might be his last chance to touch it for awhile unless he scores here. That's never a good mindset. Watching the games, you can tell he tries to be more aggressive when he's not touching the ball as much and that results in more turnovers, because he tries to do so much and ends up playing outside of what he's capable of. When he is actively in the game it seems like he is much more patient and much more willing to pass and get others involved, while making sure he gets good looks. That's my biggest observation on him.
