Eagles / Vikings Swap Receivers <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Philadelphia traded wide receiver Billy McMullen to Minnesota for rookie free-agent receiver Hank Baskett on Thursday. A third-round draft pick in 2003, McMullen never really found a steady role in Philadelphia with 22 catches for 294 yards and one touchdown in three seasons. He'll be reunited with news Vikings coach and former Eagles offensive coordinator, Brad Childress, and quarterback Mike McMahon in Minnesota. Baskett, New Mexico's leading receiver in each of the last two seasons, had 67 receptions for 1,071 yards and nine touchdowns as a senior.</div> link: http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news;_ylt=Amu9...ov=ap&type=lgns
Jabar Gaffney was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a handgun <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Eagles wide receiver Jabar Gaffney was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a handgun following a traffic stop last month, county prosecutors said Friday. Gaffney had a permit to carry the weapon in Texas, but not in New Jersey, Camden County prosecutors said. The charge carries a maximum five-year sentence but most first-time offenders get no jail time. Gaffney, 25, was stopped on June 20 by police for driving erratically on the Walt Whitman Bridge, which connects Philadelphia and New Jersey. As Gaffney was reaching into the glove compartment, the officer saw the handgun, a loaded .380 semiautomatic that was registered to another person riding in the car. Gaffney showed the officer his concealed-weapon license, but he was charged and released on his own recognizance. Prosecutors said Gaffney intends to apply for a program for first-time offenders that result in charges being dismissed upon completion of the program. Gaffney's attorney, Robert A. Greenberg, didn't immediately return a message left Friday morning. Eagles coach Andy Reid said the charges were the result of a misunderstanding. "He had the gun registered in the state of Texas, he thought it was fine on his move up here," Reid said. "Jabar is not the kind of guy I'm too worried about. He's a pretty straight shooter. ... No pun intended there." Gaffney signed as a free agent with the Eagles in the offseason following four seasons with the Houston Texans. Originally a second-round draft pick out of Florida in 2002, Gaffney has 171 career catches for 2,009 yards and seven touchdowns. He signed a one-year deal with the Eagles in March. </div> link: http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=ap-e...ov=ap&type=lgns Like Andy Reid said, hopefully this is just a misunderstanding
Bentley Out for Season <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Stretched out on a flatbed cart, LeCharles Bentley covered his face with a towel to hide his disappointment and tears. This wasn't the homecoming he had planned. His first season with the Cleveland Browns ended before it began. Bentley, a two-time Pro Bowl center and one of the team's prized free agent signings this winter, sustained a season-ending injury to his left knee Thursday in the first 11-on-11 drill of training camp. The loss is a crushing blow for a club that has been cursed by major injuries the past few seasons but has improved its roster and has high hopes for 2006. "He was the face of our free agent class," general manager Phil Savage said. "We feel terrible for LeCharles, but life goes on." Savage said Bentley tore his patellar tendon and will undergo surgery as early as Friday. Savage declined to say if Bentley's tear was partial or complete and would not speculate on a time frame for recovery. Blocking for Reuben Droughns on an off-tackle running play to the right, Bentley, who played four years in New Orleans, was briefly engaged in a block up front with nose tackle Ted Washington when his left knee buckled. Bentley screamed, "No!" and grabbed his knee as coach Romeo Crennel and his staff blew their whistles to halt play. While on his knees, Bentley, one of the NFL's premier centers, punched the ground in disgust as the Browns moved their scrimmage up the field so the club's medical staff could attend to him. As Bentley was being helped, linemates Joe Andruzzi and Cosey Coleman came over to check on the 26-year-old, who sat on the ground for several minutes before being carted to the locker room. </div> link: http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news;_ylt=AnOa...ov=ap&type=lgns Well, this is sad. You always hate a player to go down like that, no matter what the circumstance (unless it's TO, then I'd be celebrating). Anyways, you can't help but wonder what would have happened if he signed with the Eagles.
Is anyone here worried about Bunkley? He hasn't signed yet, and from what I have read, he is refusing calls from the Eagles. I'm starting to get worried that he won't sign.........
