International Student Advisor for a large university was one of my former jobs. Most undocumented students are put in that position by actions from their parents or loss of a previous status, that puts the kid in a very strange position. Been in the USA since before they can remember, only know the US as home, love America, this is their home. But because of the circumstance they are forced to return to a country they don't know, a language they can't speak. It is almost never the fault of the kid. Really really tough and sad situations sometimes. These applicants/students don't even pass through the International Student Department (only to ask questions). They are handled by the regular admissions office or registrar.

There are a ton of students who violate their visa status, but USCIS doesn't take any real action. The action is left to the school advisors to do paperwork and recommend that they leave the U.S., many don't. Can just leave the U.S. and reapply for the visa and re-enter. Those are the students who violate on purpose, not the undocumented students.

I should clarify, not all students who violate their visa status do it on purpose. There are many rules to follow which can be violated without their knowing. But there are a portion of students who willingly violate.

I assume this is your opinion. It is not mine. It sounds as if you are speaking of refuges which would have a legal status.
I am speaking of illegals which do not have a reason to be here by our law. If you don't like the law then please get it changed if possible.
Otherwise, anyone here illegally includes their children which have no reason to be here and none should be invented other than by law.

My argument was not about immigration law but about people who are here with their reason to be here...Canada is full of people who grew up there with draft dodging dads who stayed and married eventually...according to them, Canada was reason enough not to go to prison or war...might not be your reason, but it's a reason

Let me put it simply....I gladly accept the Hispanic kids whom I've taught and coached that grew up here and I really don't give a damn what sort of papers their parents have....in my 62 years, I've never been bothered or economically challenged by the presence of a foreigner in the neighborhood..I choose not to live in urban sprawls though. I'm not buying the national witch hunt for (south of the border) people but if some gangster, thief, bad egg is here for bad reasons...I have no mercy...just leave good, honest working families alone is my belief..if they get caught traveling, that's where they need the papers.

I apologize for every Monday post I make here....back to back graveyard shifts on the weekend and my neighbor was grinding metal on a car so I missed my morning nap.

I'm not talking about other countries. I am merely talking about illegal immigrants getting free rides to universities, in this particular case Georgetown, and it being completely wrong. They shouldn't be allowed to harbor illegals. These people shouldn't be here consuming services and funding that could of and should have gone to valid Americans (regardless of color)

I would agree with you if this were a state school but it's a private university. They don't have to allow any Americans in.

We're not talking about all illegal immigrants here, we are talking about ones who have been raised here in this country and have earned the right for further education. The person mentioned in your article has been here since he was 4yrs old. Would you allow him to enlist in the military? Or he just needs to go back to his country of birth?

Well, #4 makes them legal. So there's that.

And can you provide a link showing how Georgetown uses DOE funds to pay for scholarships to undocumented students? Thanks in advance.

Not all students fall under #4 of what you cited obviously, else they wouldn't need to create their safe spaces, or keep their housing open during the holidays so that, as they quoted in the article have students stay at the university for fear of being deported once they fly home.

And google it yourself for links on Georgetown funding, or prove that they take absolutely zero money from the federal government in regards to grants, programS, research etc. money that can be used for anything once they get it.

How does an illegal immigrant earn their right to to use resources for the valid citizens? I would allow him to apply through the normal process honestly.

Also I am not specifically talking about this one person in this article. I am talking about how other universities as states in the article are giving many illegals free rides. It's not just Georgetown.

Sure but then they get into this conflict of interest with money they take from the Feds and also harboring illegals in some cases.

I'd rather the people go get good jobs and support themselves. And pay for my social security - the ponzi scheme requires new people to pay in.
