Do you sense that something is wrong when so many people find it racist? Whenever a lot of people disagree it's time for a reevaluation.

Just gonna say, the reason it's racist is because (as you said) it's derogatory, and it's based solely on a racial connection.

Hypothetically, let's say instead he called her "O'Leary", as a reference to the football coach George O'Leary who lied on his resume about his college education, and subsequently lost a job he had been given at Notre Dame. In that situation, he would be using "O'Leary" as a derogatory term, but it would not be anti-Irish racism, because the connection was based on a comparison of Warren (presumably) lying about her heritage with O'Leary lying about his education.

In this case, the only connection Warren has to Pocahontas is Native-American heritage, and the only reason Pocahontas is being referenced is because Trump is calling Warren's heritage into question, so it is clear that he is invoking Pocahontas' name solely as a race-based pejorative.

It still doesn’t convince me and I don’t know why it’s a big deal. Should of stopped commenting a while ago because I forgot the people in the OT section just won’t stop until you start agreeing with them. I simply don’t think it’s racist. Apparently that makes me a terrible person who all of a sudden adopted some persona and I’m just trying to offend. Such a ridiculous theory.

How about this because nobody will tackle it. Is the chappelle bit racist then? I mean based on what you just said it should be racist. Interested in where you go with this one. Nobody else covered it. Danced around it

    Pretty much.
Does her heritage really matter that much?
If shes the most qualified for the position(I won't say she is, or isn't) does her heritage really matter?

Their are people in this world who will do everything in their power to bring you down to their level.
Personally I don't care if EW is 1/600th Native American. And no one else should as well.

Unfortunately the fact that we're talking(some are arguing) about this.
Shows what someone looks like is all that matters to some.
    That to me, is sad.

why do you continually label people in a specific group. Can an independent have the same views? sure. Are all democrats extreme leftists like you continually portray them? Not even close. It appears you have a lot of built up animosity towards anyone that disagrees with you and then lump them into a defined group. Poor choice on your part.

Well I’m not dumb. Most of these guys I have been on the forum with for a while. It’s easy to see which way they lean and see some of the things they have said. It’s not hard to know who is liberal or conservative here after a while. I think progressives can be fine, just don’t get crazy with it. That’s all. It’s portland. Portland is known for being super left. Which is fine. Just don’t try and tell me what things are and aren’t. But since you guys keep pressing me I’m gonna reply. A good old liberal gangbang

Nay! It did not begin there. It began in 2012 when she got called for claiming Native American heritage.

    "
Their quarrel took a nasty turn around this time, when Brown's stafferswere filmed doing "war whoops" and "tomahawk chops" during an outdoor rally.
Brown told WCVB in Boston that he didn't condone their actions, but said "the real offense is that (Warren) said she was white and then checked the box saying she is Native American, and then she changed her profile in the law directory once she made her tenure."

Probably not. Lying about your race does though.

Trump lies about a lot of things such as his education status. That seems to be acceptable to you though and there is no proof that Warren has lied where as in Trump his lies are all over the place with videos and interviews to back it up.. Seems a bit hypocritical by you.

That's fine, and it's not a big deal. I only chimed in because I didn't really see anyone else actually say something that quite matched my perspective on the matter. If you still disagree, I'm OK with that. I mean, you're wrong, but that's fine with me.

As far as I'm concerned, no, because it's clear that his intention is not to demean, divide, or denigrate. Especially considering the last segment of the bit, where he transitions in to judging people by their food, and the start of his bit about fried chicken, it's pretty obvious that his whole desire is to mock the ridiculousness of racial stereotypes rather than pander to them. That's what makes what he's doing different than most what of the progressives decry; the comments or actions commonly called out as racist are those that suggest that another person or group is "less than" because of racial heritage. Chappelle isn't doing that at all.

That's probably a false premise, because she (and her family) have pointed out that that's what they were told about their heritage.

But even if it was a lie, she didn't use it to get ahead, so at most it's like Trump saying that he's like, a very stable genius.

So the question is why should her ethnicity matter (to anyone but her, her family, and racists)?

Doesn’t mean I’m wrong but I mean okay if you want to do the whole childish I’m right and you’re wrong laughing emoji face then great. Have at it. Your point about the Chappelle bit is inconsistent but I mean whatever I think chappelle is a genius and the shits funny so that’s that. Should of never commented on this. I forgot you can’t have an opinion here without somebody freaking out. Not saying you did. Everybody else did however
