    Previewing the Upcoming Week:

    1/21 at Reading - 1:05 p.m., Home vs. REA 2-2-1, Away vs. REA 0-2-1

Monday afternoon the Jackals go for their first win of the season in Reading and try to hand the Royals just their second home loss since Nov. 3 (16-1-0). After a rocky start to their road schedule in November (1-4-1) the Jackals have been markedly improved away from First Arena. They have gone 8-6-1 on the road since the beginning of December, but have really turned it on post-Christmas. From December 27 through January 19 the Jackals are 5-3-0 on the road. The only team to beat Elmira in a road game more than once in that stretch? Reading. The Royals have scored 12 combined goals in their two home wins against Elmira in January while the Jackals have netted five. After Monday afternoon the Jackals will have four game left, of eight, in Reading for the season.

    1/27 vs. Trenton - 4:05 p.m., Home vs. TRE 2-2-0, Away vs. TRE 2-1-1

Elmira and Trenton have been about as evenly matched as opponents can be this season. Each team has won four of the prior eight meetings and both hold identical 4-3-1 records against the others. Trenton has had the better of the close games (3-1-1 when decided by one goal) while the Jackals have been more dominating in their wins (2.5 average margin of victory and two wins by four goals). The Jackals will be the much more rested team come game time on Sunday thanks to a rare occurrence of having this Friday and Saturday off. Trenton, meanwhile, will be finishing a three-in-three after hosting Las Vegas on Friday and Wheeling on Saturday.

    Recapping Last Week:

    1/15 at Cincinnati: W 3-1

    Box Score, Recap

Down a skater and having forward Jean Bourbeau fill in as a defenseman, the Elmira Jackals rode 38 saves by Maxime Clermont and two goals by Louie Caporusso to a 3-1 win over the Cincinnati Cyclones. The win was Elmira's third in four tries against the Cyclones and closed out the season series.

    1/16 at Kalamazoo: W 2-1

    Box Score, Recap

Elmira made its first, and only, visit of the season to Kalamazoo a memorable one with a dramatic comeback win. Wings goaltender, and former Jackal, Joel Martin faced a 48-shot barrage in the game and nearly made enough saves to lead Kalamazoo to a win. But a Jackals third period rally was capped with a winning goal by Louie Caporusso in the final minute.

    1/18 vs. Trenton: L 5-8

    Box Score, Recap

The Jackals held their opponents to one goal in each of their first two games of the week, but they could not fashion the same result on Friday. The eight goals surrendered to Trenton were a season high, but the offense battled throughout to keep the game close. A Matt Campanale goal with just over three minutes remaining made the score 6-5, but Trenton's offense persisted and paved the way to a win.

    1/19 at Reading: L 1-6

    Box Score, Recap

With 14 skaters available, and playing their fourth game in five days, the Jackals could not keep pace with the conference-leading Royals. A Justin DaCosta power play goal, his first for the Jackals, had the game tied late in the first, but the Royals answered just over a minute later to reclaim the lead. Two more goals in each the second and third period kept Reading in front of Elmira.

    Quick Hits:

    * Dustin Gazley leads the Jackals with 13 points (3G, 10A) in the month of January. He currently sits seventh in the league in points with 45 through 36 games played (1.25/game) and is ahead of his scoring pace from his 85 point rookie season (1.18/game).

    * Elmira's 48 shots on goal on Wednesday in Kalamazoo were its most in a single game this season. Every skater had at least one shot on goal with Rob Bellamy ahead of the pack with seven. The Jackals are 8-7-1 in games when they out-shoot their opponent.

    * The Jackals' nine road wins are tied for sixth most in the ECHL. They have done it on the strength of 72 goals (3.42/game) which rate as the third most in the league. They have scored 33 goals in nine road games (3.67/game) since December 27 leading to a 6-3-0 record in those games.

    * Louie Caporusso has recorded a point in all but two of Elmira's game in the month of January (6G, 6A). He has also been even or better in eight of the team's 10 games and is tops for the club at +7 in the month.

    * The Jackals have had 13 different transactions, players either leaving or joining the team, take place since the first post-lockout transactions hit on Saturday, January 12.
