<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Crossover:</div><div class="quote_post">That's why Paul Pierce is there, right? They're not over 500 right now, and they're not going to end the season over 500, yet the coaches voted him in as a reserve. Well? </div> If the playoffs started today, Boston would be in there. Paul Pierce has basically no help, Brand has Q and Corey Maggette. Pierce got in because he seems to be able to lead his team to respectability, something Elton Brand hasn't done yet, with or without Antoine Walker. He misses Antoine Walker, but can keep them a respectable team without him. The coaches vote the players who they see as the most deserving to be an all star, and for reasons that will be unknown to us, they didn't pick Brand. We can only guess why, but because AK47 got in it's likely to be the Clippers record and the players they've got. Then you look at the Jazz record and who they've got, I'd say that'd be one of the biggest reasons Brand didn't get in.
They're in the EASTERN CONFERENCE bro, you think 22-28 is respectable? They've been respectable until this season, in other words, until Antoine Walker left the team. But now, they're a bad team. Put the Celtics in the west this year and they'd be very lucky to have 15 wins, I don't buy that respectability argument for a second. Let the Clippers play in the east and you'd see how respectable they would be. The bottom line is that Brand deserved to be there, no if's, and's or but's about it. Shaq of course deserved to be there, but Brand is having the best year of any player in Los Angeles right now. He should be playing right along next to Shaq in the first all star game in LA since '84? It's just plain stupid.
Aww man, you beat me to it. I wanted to say that. And I think a Boston team in the West would be lucky to break double digits. The Clippers would get over 50 wins every season in the east, because they have a dominate trio. They don't have to worry about getting shot attempts because they're a very high scoring team - I think they're fourth in the league, behind Dallas, Sacramento, and Seattle. But how Elton Brand averages 30 ppg on under 14 shot attempts is just amazing. He'd dropped 20 on the all stars and no one could complain about him shooting too much.
I'm not trying to say that Brand shouldn't be there, he should be. I'm just sticking up for Andrei Kirilenko as you'd expect. AK47's a worthy all star, like it or not. The coaches like Kirilenko, with good reason. I would of expected Brand to get in over AK47, but the coaches see something that most people on this board don't.
I'm not saying that Kirilenko shouldn't be there either, simply that Brand was deserving. Believe me, I'm a fairly knowledgable basketball fan, and I understand that Kirilenko's contributions go far beyond scoring and rebounding. His selection was expected as far as I was concerned, my problem lies more with voting a guy like Nowitzki onto the team. More than anything, I think this is a case of the Clippers paying the price for being the Clippers. They've been the laughing stock of the league for so long that they get absolutely no respect. It's shameful to deny Brand his spot in this game, not just because the game happens to be in his backyard this year, but because he flat-out deserved to be there.
