Were you working through a security agency or for the Blazers directly? I would hope the Blazers would treat a 9 year employee better than <$10/hr.
File that with the Guinness Book of Records. No one else has ever stayed 9 7/12 years at the same job in order to make $9 7/12 per hour.
So with you being a Blazers fan and all, was it hard to focus on your job when the game was going on. Was there a rule about not watching the on-court action when you were on duty? Just curious.
Well I'm not sure if I agree with this. In my opinion people bounce around from job to job to much thinking there's going to be something better at the end of the road and that's the problem.
We are/were a security agency that has a contract with the Rose Garden / Moda Center. These contracts are usually multi-year contracts and sometimes yearly. Its the security agency's management that decides our wages not the Rose Garden / Moda Center.
The Government decides your wages and the grass isn't always greener on the other side even if it does seem like more pay.
I used to work with Nate Dogg. He was great at his job, he could sniff out underage drinkers like this board can sniff out HCP's old lady's panties. He was a tough and serious security guard. Never let anybody without a wrist band get past him. Real talk.
Thanks Mick, if only if we were paid $11 an hour I can guess there would be about a dozen security that would be back at this job. I can probably name them all, but they all left because they felt underpaid, issues with management, etc,. for the liabilities that we faced with crazy drunk guests. Several of these past co-workers are my friends on facebook. Theres less than 10 left that have worked 9 years like myself. Everyone is new with less than 4 years experience. I couldn't stand the once a month pay checks anymore as well.
Last night was funny. Every season the first home game is on straight lockdown mode. All the security guys on in Nazi mode....... Guys I don't recognize letting us know they have some authority. My man Jamal Crawford saw me on the loading dock and we started walking over to each other to say what's up and this guard tried to stop me.....it was kinda' crazy. Good luck to you man. It was always cool seeing you and saying hi. Same with Zags down there. We don't interact with eachother on here, so it's cool to see people in person.
How about holding a sign on roadside construction? Being a receptionist is a good way to get into an office and start at the bottom. Have a number of upper management at my company that started there with or without degrees. If you bust your butt and help out people in the office you can move up. Getting some type of 2yr degree if you go into a trade field or 4yr does help alot. Just don't spend a ton of money getting it.
Here's the security's craigslist ad. - start you off at $9.19 http://portland.craigslist.org/mlt/sec/4082717137.html
