I don't think I've seen anywhere that someone didn't think each of these moves was a net positive. They got 2 who will be rotation players for either nothing or players who were out of the rotation. They also got 'potential' for Caleb who was never going to see court time. So 3 'positive' moves...but at the same time, that doesn't necessarily meant they improved us even one round in the Playoffs.

So if we are better but it didn't make a significant difference, I can see why some don't think it's that big of a deal, even if every move was a 'positive'.

New Orleans shed salary, added five second round picks, is in the process of improving this years 1st round pick (tanking), and didn't let AD and his agent railroad them into a bad trade. Yeah...I've been paying attention, and that was an effective deadline for them

meanwhile, Portland added two backups for a run at the playoffs (Skal in unlikely to help or play); backups that will probably be a bit better than those whose minutes they replace, but it's debatable they are needle-movers in the playoffs. And it seems pretty likely that neither will be re-signed.

besides all that, this discussion was generated by a post asking if Olshey should be EOTY for trading for Hood and signing Kanter...so, any later exaggeration seems justified

2nd round picks don’t mean much if you don’t turn them into contributing players. I’d rather be in our position of lightly improving our chances as a player team than a lotto team banking on a handful of 2nd rounders turning into something meaningful while my star player is looking for his way out.

I don’t know much about the success rate of 2nd rounders, but I’d have to think it’s not high (though Portland seems to have a higher success rate than most in recent years).

Rodney Hood waived his no-trade so he could come to PORTLAND? And Enes Kanter was pursued by the Thunder, Rockets, Celtics, and the LAKERS and he CHOSE PORTLAND?
I know we're not talking about superstars, but damn, to me they both feel like perfect fits. Can't remember the last time I liked a Blazers team this much. Beer:30 came early tonight!
Hell, I'm even loving the video I've watched on Skal. And the vid of Simons dunking was unreal. And Trent could be a crowd favorite.
I can picture Kanter and Nurk pissing off the Warriors in the playoffs. Collins checking in for a demoralizing block. Seth hitting 3 after 3 after 3. Dame taking over. Layman having the Warriors shaking their heads after his umpteenth alley-oop. We now have FIVE 7 footers. And our team is So. Damn. Young.
I'm sure it's been covered already but Dame, Hood, Layman, Kanter, and Nurk could share the floor? All guys that like it here? Sure, we'd regularly see games where the other team puts up a buck forty, but as long as we're at 141, I'm good.
If, if, IF we make it to the WCF's and make some noise, any chance we'd be able to keep the team largely intact? (I know nothing about the financial side of the NBA.)

Really? It’s pretty clear what the Blazers are trying to do. They’re trying to upgrade wherever they can, in any way they can, to build a team around Lillard that has a chance to compete for a title. I don’t know if Kanter is the answer, but I know he’s an upgrade over Collins and Leonard and I applaud Olshey for doing what he can to improve the team.

EOTY??? Really? Exaggerate much? New Orleans is a mess. Sorry you can't see that. Tanking and 5 second rounders. Sure that would be great. I'm sure you would be all for that if Olshey did it. This back and forth is done. Nothing can be gained here. Enjoy the rest of the season.

It's rude because it's untrue. It is also rude, after I've gone out of my way to explain my perspective, to not only discount the validity of my opinion by saying I am conditioned to complain but also not even considering what I'm saying.

Not sure if thats approval or disappointment??

So does Nurk. Man, this could get entertaining going down the stretch as things heat up.

    For 1 mill?

Great move. Collins could probably learn some from him too as far as offensive positioning and balance in the paint.

Neither Duck, nor Sabonis deserve to have their jerseys retired.

Sorry Prop. My feeling on the matter is the team got better and the team got deeper. I like the moves.

No argument. The consolidation trade that I really feel needed to be done, wasn't. That being said, it was a nice haul. We got a lot, and gave up little - we didn't even give up our 1st rounder, which we were planning on doing.

I think he go out about 15-16 feet but his offense strength his back to the basket. That's way he will work better with the 2nd unit. I don't know how good pnr players is because majority of his points comes in the low posts position. I see him working well with Dame and CJ on the floor together.

    Well Portland certainly has depth.
Don't know how Stotts plays all these players.
Tho this says one thing. The organization doesn't believe Collins is ready for big minutes.

You might see some Zach with Kanter just on Zach defense. Yes Zach get call for fouls but also he makes some good defense stops too.
