"Average-Starter" Guess times are hard when the offense isn't run through you at least 65% of the time down the floor
Heh. A guy who's missed 44% of games in his career is definitely not going to draw favorable historical comparisons. That said, his statistical profile rates quite well so a couple of reasonably productive players, like Splitter and Gortat, sneak onto his comparables. Basically, Festus is a boom-or-bust guy...if he can stay healthy from now on, he could be really good. If he continues missing time, he'll have very little value. Splitting the difference leaves him with a poor evaluation overall.
I bet someone in the FO heard about these comparisons and said "Now this is a guy we can sign 3 times, and trade 3 times."
Steph Curry is most comparable tooooooooo MICHAEL JORDAN. lol http://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/carmelo/stephen-curry/
Most like. Hah. Look at the likeness percent. Very low compared to some of the others for which comparisons were done.
The fuck? MJ was a defensive beast who relied on penetration, Curry can't defend like 10+ opposing PGs in the league so he asks Klay to do it for him and his offensive game relies on threes. The only thing they have in common is the fact that they both score a lot (even though Curry does it under SOFT defensive rules).
Lillard's closest comparison is a 2011 Brandon Roy. http://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/carmelo/damian-lillard/
That's no disparagement. Cummings and Marques Johnson were the 2 best small forwards in the league for a few years. Anyway, I don't like this Carmelo stat. I look at Evan Turner, it says one of his top 10 comparisons is the Gerald Henderson of last season. So I look at Henderson, it says he's a scrub. He's no scrub. http://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/carmelo/gerald-henderson/
Curry's highest comp is Jordan because Jordan is the only player in history who was anywhere near as efficient a scorer as Curry while also being a volume scorer. In terms of playing style, they're obviously very different and Jordan was a significantly better defender, though people underrate Curry on that end--advanced stats have him ranging from average to good. Jordan was great, though. So the similarity score is weak. Jordan is the closest, not close. Curry is essentially a historically unusual player with no great comps, and that makes sense, IMO.
