Sorry, but there is no way Lillard won't be unanimously voted ROY. Winning the skills competition, getting praise from the league's best, and garnering the consecutive rookie of the month awards has put Dame in a spotlight much brighter than Brandon in his rookie year. Bottom line, as great as Davis's future is there is simply no argument outside of Lillard.
There's always an argument, and I'm sure you can count on someone to vote based on it. (Or vote based on being a homer)
This isn't the vote for who will have the biggest impact in the NBA going forward. It's the vote for who was the rookie of the year this season, based on how they played and the impact they had on the NBA this season. The answer is Lillard. It would take a real douche to vote otherwise, IMO.
How many members of the media vote? There are a lot of douche's out there. There will be one that votes against him knowing he will win, but not wanting it to be unanimous. They do it all the time when voting for the Hall of Fame in baseball.
Sorry if this was addressed earlier, but here's an interesting note. Davis played more games in his rookie year than Brandon Roy did.
Anyone who thinks Lillard shouldn't get all the first place votes needs to relook at the post I made listing what he has accomplished this year. He should win it unanimously but he won't. Some , yes ill call them dumbasses, dumbass person who is a big Cleveland fan and votes for Dion Waiters, same thing in Washington, same thing in NO. We saw it happen to broy it'll happen to Lillard even though he deserves to be unanimously. Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk 2
Agreed and as I mentioned before, until I see a list like that for Davis that shows how elite of a year he had then there is no comparison
Doesn't matter WRT to ROY. It's based on performance, not potential. Davis may very well end up with a Hall of Fame career, but not based on his rookie year. Greg Oden's rookie per 36 stats were similar, his second year stats were better. Here's hoping Davis has a far longer, far less injury prone career. If the Blazers would have made the playoffs, he probably would have, but with the team back in the lottery, probably not this year. Maybe in the future... BNM
Did these guys just not watch Dame play this year? Are they basing their entire argument on advanced stats? Sentimental pick? Really? So all Dame did was play the whole season and he deserves the award? That's it? Nothing else? Just barely? Okay. I seriously think these guys read that Bleacher Report bozo and they started to drink the coolaid. Close call eh? I guess we'll see. If Davis can win ROY without winning a single rookie of the month, that would be impressive. Have these guys seen the list of accomplishments that Dame has done this year? I mean, seriously, it's like they're sold on the idea that Dame put up a few points and played the whole year, now he deserves the award. It's just nuts.
It really seems that they read that one guys article and took it to heart. Glad none of these clowns have a vote.
Sure enough, on the latest 5-on-5, one of the guys I that I know who really doesn't know jack about the game is the first guy they have commenting on ROY, and he picked Davis. Some odd foreshadowing - and then, sure enough, guess who they get in the 5-on-5, picking Anthony Davis - http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/page/5-on-5-130416/nba-2013-rookie-year
It sure seems like ESPN is trying to chink away at his armor, putting the thought out there that it's closer than it is and that the only reason why Dame is the front runner is because he played the whole season. Pretty fucking ridiculous.
They did the same thing with evans and with irving but not with Griffen (surprise surprise). Trying to create controversy we're there really is none for rating purposes. Pisses me off. Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk 2
MVP means different things to different people. Given that the voters get to give 1st thru 5th most valuable player votes, I can see Lillard getting some votes. He is most valuable to his team. Regardless of their record, it would be far worse if you removed him from the team - a criteria for determining "value"
There were dumbasses that gave first place votes to Faried, Shumpert, and Kawhi Leonard last year. I expect similar stupidity this year. The whole unanimous thing is pointless.
