ESPN is loving the Blazers. They realized that we are the perfect underdog story starting with our guards from Weber State and Lehigh
And the whole "4 starters left" thing. It's a compelling story. Nobody in the media thought they'd be here.
I was looking at ESPN before seeing this thread, and "Wow, that's a lot of Blazer news. Is it an ESPN game tomorrow, it must be an ESPN game tomorrow" *Checks* "It isn't?! Wow is it an ESPN game tomorrow?" *Checks* "It isn't?!?!?! WOW!" The fact that they aren't talking about us just to boost ratings is big. We didn't really get this kind of coverage last year, it was always on ESPN game nights to try and increase viewership.
I think it's because this year's team is more fun to watch, a better story, and Dame is finally playing at a superstar level.
The CJ video sucked. It was bad enough when they quickly went to talking about how Curry should win it even though he won't "because they don't give it to the MVP". But what got me to turn it off was when he said "Another one in a long, long, long, long line of guys who we said - he can't play.". You're right, your analysis sucks and is not worth watching, thank's for reminding me.
Interestingly enough I haven't seen them do a story on Aldridge in San Antonio. Maybe he's so awkward about the press that he asks not for that kind of press about him/the team. Or maybe he just doesn't draw any interest... Either way the entire vibe is different without him on the team.
I never saw this posted on here, but it had a nice write up on Dame. http://www.nba.com/2016/news/featur...bron-james-kevin-durant-chris-paul/index.html They put him above Kawhi!
Yes things are all smiles and rainbows right now. It will be interesting to see how the young Blazers respond to this sudden outpouring of compliments and good press. Hopefully they don't get happy and stay hungry.
Dame is a marketing goldmine for the league. Underdog rising above, an edge from Oakland but finished his degree. All about working hard instead of partying. Serious rapper who's willing to laugh at himself. This is the kind of role model they've been looking for since Charles Barkley.
At least he admitted that he, and everyone else, needs to stops saying that about players, because as he points out......they usually all end up being wrong. Now if we can just get half this board to come to the same realization.........
The Blazers are in NYC and ESPN is an east coast media company not too far from NYC with many NYC based contributors. That was to be expected.
Was just going to say the same thing. Portland is playing in Madison Square Garden tonight, hence the coverage all over ESPN.
"We already had a star that was an incredible natural leader," Olshey told ESPN.com, "and quite honestly, he was held back from taking that kind of role because he was trying to make it work with veterans." We all knew Dame was deferring for Lamarsha.
That is true. I believe the same thing happened last year when we played in NY. I need to pay more attention to other west coast teams to see if that theory holds true.
My favorite part of the article is this: You know what this means? Scheme and effort. We have great coaching and guys that buy into the coach.
