Here is a response to Turner's support article: "It’s also hard to pinpoint areas of strength with him. That playmaking factor the Blazers like to cite? The Blazers’ assist percentage goes up by 3 percentage points with Turner on the bench. The offense gets better statistically, the defense gets better statistically, the shooting gets better statistically. Points in the paint allowed and created, points off turnovers allowed and created, fastbreak points allowed and created — all of these metrics improve without Turner." "This is a whole lot of bad data. In truth, I tried to find something, anything, to counteract it. The best I can really say is that Turner isn’t actively dragging the team down as he did last year." And, for me personally,he does seem to have found a niche where he is making himself valuable. https://www.actionnetwork.com/nba/a...-turner-really-hurting-portland-trail-blazers
Great post. I actually like Turner, just not at these $$$$. If you don't like Turner, don't worry. Summer of 2019 we'll be changing his name to ETEC! (Evan Turner Expiring Contract)
If that guy should be heckling anyone, it should be Olshey. ET plays hard and I have no problem with him on the court. Same way with Leonard and Harkless even though they are frustrating since more is expected. ET is just one of those players that thrive in one system (Boston with Stevens)but are meh (Philly and Indy)in others. I would love him on this roster if his contract was near Aminu money.
There's been some criticism of ET in comparison to him on the bench rather than in the game: https://www.blazersedge.com/2018/3/...blazers-contract-stats-jason-quick-matt-moore But that's a disingenuous accounting; ET's performance should be accounted versus ALL lineups without him (including the insanely potent but situational Dame/CJ/Bazz lineup), but against the only other SF on the team... Amin--HAHAHAHA I mean Harkless. ET-based three man lineups outperform the same Mo-based lineup every time: Aminu / Nurkic / Turner = +6.2 points per 100 possessions Aminu / Nurkic / Harkess = +4.5 points per 100 possessions Aminu / Lillard / Turner = +6.0 Aminu / Lillard / Harkless = +3.6 Lillard / Nurkic / Turner = +4.0 Lillard / Nurkic / Harkless = +1.7 CJ / Nurkic / Turner = +1.0 CJ / Nurkic / Harkless = +0.9 CJ / Lillard / Turner = +2.3 CJ / Lillard / Harkless = +0.9 Meanwhile, Zach / Patty C / Ed Davis is our best three-man lineup at +12.0; does this mean we bench Aminu, Nurkic, and Turner for them? ... on second thought, maybe don't answer that question.
