Doesn't matter because Lakers will be looking to dump Deng's contract, not take another one and they will be willing to offer significant value to the team that will agree knowing that it will create a max space for second free agent next year and possibility of signing not only Paul George, but also Cousins or James. Ingram + Deng for cap space would be overkill but Randle + Deng + future pick could be on the cards and I genuinely won't be that shocked if they give someone Kuzma to take Deng's deal although I'd say that's maybe a 5% chance. Kuzma's value must be very, very high.
I think your trades work better for the Lakers with Turner instead of Deng. People trading with the Lakers can put a more positive spin on acquiring Turner than they can Deng--he's younger and hasn't been DNP for over a year.
It would be interesting to go back and figure out if deals could have been drawn up differently so that we had all that cap space in a different year. Was it bad planning or just damn bad luck?
It was fairly easily done. All they would have needed to do is wait on the CJ extension until he was a RFA.
On the other hand, maybe his aim all along was for that year. Our biggest needs were young active defensive center (Whiteside) and all around type SF (Parsons). He thought he had a reasonable chance at Whiteside and probably a sure thing on Parsons.
He's pretty much the same guy since he entered the league. Blame Olshey for thinking he was something else and then throwing ridiculous money at him.
Evan Turnover shouldn't see any minute with the Blazers. He is horrible. Blazers should accept that his contract was a huge mistake, just like the Knicks with Noah, lakers with deng or Pelicans with asik. It's better to sit his contract out and bench him insted of let him play just because he earn 17 Million $. He is and will allways be a negative fit for the Blazers and napier should see all his minutes. Fuck evan turnover he is so bad
I can’t think of a rotation player in recent memory I enjoyed watching less than Even Turner... I really hope Olshey can get over his ego and just attach a 1st rd pick to get rid of that atrocious contract
Nah, that just compounds the mistake. As badly as I want to get rid of Turner, I wouldn't include anything higher than, say, the 25th pick to shed his salary. I'm of the mind of just benching him. Consider the cap space gone. Maybe a team will eventually make a palatable offer for him. Or maybe he'll get tired of sitting and request a buy-out.
I agree. No need to compound the mistake. Better course of action is to try and break his bad contract into two smaller bad contracts. Something like Dellavedova + ?
If we're going to be crappy with Turner anyways then we might as well be crappy and still have our draft picks. Dumping an asset to get rid of Turner only helps Paul Allen's checkbook a little. Not the team.
that offseason really nobody else wanted the money he threw at him....that offseason was filled with ridiculous deals all around the league...Batum got 120 mill and he's way overpaid...Parsons, Ryan Anderson....Kanter...lot of big deals..Crabbe as well
He's a big reason we're the 4th best defense in the league....and if I'm not mistaken it was around this time last season when he started getting the occasional 24 pt game.....he doesn't fill the stat sheet but to me he's a great defender at every position on the court
His D is pretty good. Inconsistent shot to say the least. lol I love that he had a good game and hope he keeps it up so it builds up his trade value.
Did I miss something? I thought he had a good game last night. Don't crap on a guy when he plays well. Too much hate around here. I loved Turner in Boston and am glad to have him here. Our system is seriously flawed, so much so that it's tough for any of our players to look good unless they play hero ball. Fix the system and ET will do what he's paid to do. How much he gets paid is on the front office. We have much bigger problems than ET!
