I have wanted Turner since he was on the Sixers. I wanted him when he was traded to Indy. I was definitely hoping to add another star quality player.... but Turner/Ezeli is a nice consolation.

ATL really fucked things up. They planned to sign Howard, resign Horford (play him at the 4) and trade Millsap for young assets to replenish their roster moving forward after trading Teague, moving Schroder to the starting line up and losing Bazemore. They fucked that up by asking Horford to give them a hometown discount so they should sign Howard. They didn't need to do that, as they had Horford's Bird rights, but they got cheap (like OKC did with Harden). If anyone should have been asked to give them a hometown discount, it should have been the declining, problematic Howard.

Now, they have a mess. They have Howard and Millsap, who know's they were shopping him, on an experiencing contract who will be eligible for a super max 10-year veteran deal next summer, with the cap going up yet again (no way he gives them a hometown discount after they openly tried to trade him). In spite of losing three starters and adding a player in decline, that's still a playoff team in the East. So, who knows if they blow it up midseason, or not. Adding Howard delayed the inevitable rebuild, and failing to retain Horford so they could trade Millsap cost them the opportunity to add young payers and future draft picks. Still, I suspect Millsap will be back on the trading block at the deadline, if not sooner. They won't want to lose him for nothing and don't want to be staring down a super max deal starting at about $35 million next summer.

Chicago has also had a confusing summer. Just when it looked like they were ready to start rebuilding by casting off veterans Rose and Noah, 35-year old Dwyane Wade shows up on their doorstep. So, once again, another overdue rebuilding effort has been temporarily delayed. Wade and Butler are good enough to make them a playoff team in the East, possibly even get then HCA in the 1st round fi Wade is healthy. Out of courtesy, I doubt in they'll look to trade Butler as long as Wade is on their roster. That takes him off the market.

IND is also in flux. They made the playoffs and gave 2 seed TOR a scare, thanks mostly to Paul George being a total stud. Then they fired their coach, the coach that helped make Paul George into a 2-way stud. They traded Hill, a great defender, for Teague a better scorer. It seems like they are giving up on hanging their hat on being a great defensive team in hopes of playing at a faster pace and scoring more (hence, jettisoning Frank Vogel), but I'm not sure how that all works out for them. Hopefully, they suck and Paul George gets pissed and demands a trade. I like Millsap a lot, always have, but at this point, George is younger and better and fits out age profile better. He's a seasoned vet at this point, but not too old. In today's NBA, he can play the stretch 4. If there is anyway to get him, I'd do it in a heartbeat. He's one of the few players not named Curry, LeBron or Durant that I'd consider moving C.J, for.

I like Teague better than Hill. I think Indiana got better, while most of the east did not.

Paul George would be nice, but I just don't think he is going anywhere.

At this point, after this summer, I don't think I'd want Millsap. His extension is going to be disgusting and he's getting up there in years. His numbers aren't THAT great.

You know, this makes me feel good. I just hope he is ready to guard Klay/KD a lot next season.

I would love Millsap but not if he is going to make 35 MIL a year in 2 seasons. That is sickening even in the new cap.

I see that Crabbe did quite well. I would guess that the lower PER's indicate that the defender also did well at preventing the other guy from getting rebounds or could also indicate he is such a good defender that the offensive guy doesn't try as many shots against him.

Flawed stat. Unless you believe Channing Frye, Kevin Love and Kyle Korver all all better defenders than Anthony Davis.

Are David Lee and J.J. Hickson really better defenders than Tristan Thompson, Jimmy Butler, Victor Oladipo and Marcus Smart? DRPM thinks so.

Is Avery Bradley really the 345th best (out of 462) defender in the NBA? If so, we should be thrilled to have a defensive stud like C.J. McCollum (208th) on our team.

A bit off topic, as this is a defensive thread, but to anyone still salty about Turner, remember how we pretty much all wished we had Livingston on our team during our Warriors series? That is our guy now, except he is like a cross of Livingston and Iggy. He has legitimate size to pay small forward, but can pass like a PG and see over the defense. He is more of Midrange shooter, just like those two, but they create their own kind of space on offense, as can Turner. Plus, he's got the defensive chops to keep our perimeter in check. I think this signing is going to make us look pretty good.

This is a beautiful mix of Mixum/BGD/Tunchi and should be commended!
