Maybe pomegranate. They are native to the region. And have sexual connotation. In Song of Solomon there is a reference to drinking the juice of thy pomegranate. Pomegranate being a reference to a part of female anatomy.

Are we really arguing what fake fruit appeared in a fake story?

Logically, every statement is true in an empty group. It is just as true that that fruit was an apple as a statement that it was a Lincoln town car.

An artist portrayed it as an apple in an old painting and then the monks in Europe came up with the fable of women not having Adam's apples and it just stuck but it more than likely was not an apple tree

Heck, everyone knows that Evangelical Christians of today are smarter than Jesus. Just ask them! Why else would they ignore or deride virtually everything Jesus taught???? Thank the Lord we have them on earth to guide us and set an example. It has been very educational for me personally.

What? You mean did I notice we finally have a pope with what appears to be a set of testicles?? He still isn't in the 21st Century but he's moving the Church closer. Sounds like the Texas bishop is a rogue agent who needs to be chopped off at the knees. God bless Francis for calling him out.

I was referring to the comments in that Reddit link. About a growing division in the American Catholic Church where women and girls wear headscarves and Vatican II is undone.

I suspect that "growing divisions" is wishful thinking by right wing Catholics. And if they think returning to draconian practices from the Middle Ages is going to save the Church (or increase attendance), they need to lay off the altar wine. What ever happened top common sense and critical thinking in this country???? Stupidity is the new American deity.....

Marx was supposedly once asked what he thought of Marxists and he replied that he was glad he wasn't one. I suspect the same thing works for Christ these days.

I was raised catholic and attended 8 years of catholic school. One of my good friends, neighbors and classmates became a priest. Last I heard , he was a proffesor teaching in a catholic university in Rome, Italy

A cousin I grew up with also became a priest (RIP) . So I have had inside info of the inner workings of the church, some not very flattering. But this a funny story about my cousin. Not getting into the church dirt.

He was the pastor of a church on the east coast. Every few years we would take a vacation together. He needed time off from the stress of his job, and wanted to see the west coast.

On one trip, we were in LA for the night. Took in a live play, and went dancing. He never told the ladies he was a priest, didn't want to spoil the fun, dancing is all he did.

Next morning, the plan was drive to Tijauna MX. Driving threw San Diego he got all excited, ordering me to pull off of the freeway, and stop at a 7-11.

He came out of the store with a bag, and said to resume driving south on the freeway.

He pulled out a large bottle of wine and a loaf of bread. Explaining it was Sunday and he was required to say mass. Normal he made arangements ahead of time to say mass at a church as a visiting priest, but forgot to on this trip.

He says mass in the car while I'm still driving. Lets just say he gave his sinner cousin, me, a special sermon.

At the end of the mass he said, this is holy wine, and we have to finish it.

7 am, we finished the large bottle of wine. I told him if we get stopped by the police, they are not going to believe he was a priest, and we were only drinking holy wine.

We made it to Tijauna, drunk, but I don't remember the rest of the day.
