I have driven after one or two drinks a few times, but there is one time in my life that I drove when I REALLY shouldn't have been behind the wheel. And, of course, I got pulled over. I was at a bar with my sister, we were planning on a drinking a couple drinks and then chilling out for a bit before going home. Anyways, the pitchers kept coming and without realizing it, it was closing time and we needed to vacate the area. I was really drunk actually. And in that state, I decided that I would give it a shot. Kind of rationalized it somehow in my drunkedness. So, I am doing alright when I decide to stop at a store to buy a cigar. For some reason, I just felt like puffing on a cigar whilst driving home. I got the cigar, pulled out of the store and lit the cigar while I was driving. Of course, I looked down at it to light it and thus wasn't looking at the road for about 2 seconds. That's when the red and blue lights started flashing. I pulled over and the cop asked me if I knew why I was being pulled over, as I was trying to put the lit cigar out in the ashtray. I said no. He informed me that I was swerving a little bit and he wanted to make sure I hadn't been drinking. I told him that I was sorry for that, but I was just trying to light the cigar. He nodded a couple of times and then told me to have a good night. Strangely enough, he never even asked for my license and registration. It was very bizarre. I knew that I had dodged a giant bullet and decided that that was my one free pass. That was about 6 years ago, and to this day I have never had more than one beer and driven. It was a terrible decision.
I was at the Oregon Brewer's Festival up in Portland about two years ago, and ended up driving home that night. I didn't get pulled over, but there were a few signs that indicated I was too drunk to drive. I made it home okay, and that was BY FAR the most impaired I've ever been driving a vehicle. I kind of consider this a wake-up call too. My lucky break I suppose, even though I probably would have passed a blood test if they had taken it.
