Nice! I grew up 4 houses from the Goldschmidts. Dated his daughter for a year or two and used to be tight with his son. We never did find out who the babysitter was though.

The governor has more control than any person on the planet.

If Oregon had the #1 economy in the nation do you think Kulongoski would be taking any of the credit?

Exactly why I'll be voting for Dudley, and not a lifelong politician

Dudley is not stupid or sociopathic as Maris claimed. Quite the contrary. But I saw his initial press conference. He promised to cut taxes, cut waste, protect the environment and increase education funding. I'm not an economist, I'm a biologist, but I can clearly see the math does not add up.

There are people, like Schonz, who are supporting him based on him being smart and nice. But this is not the NBA Citizenship Award. This is politics in an economic crisis. The problems are not the result of stupidity, they are structural. And I've seen no solutions, just wishing.

He has referenced Schwartzenegger as a model. Maybe he should talk to people in California, where Shwartzenegger is known for his total lack of compassion.

Perhaps, but that's really pretty silly. The governor probably has about 0.0000000000000001% influence on the economy. That could be more than any other single human, but it's still a trivial amount. There are a great number of humans who have influence on the economy (and most of them aren't in Oregon), and besides the humans you've got institutions and nature that influence things too.

I think Kulongoski, being a politician, would take credit for the sky being blue today. That doesn't mean it is his fault when it rains.

What number in the nation does the Oregon economy actually rank, and how has that changed during Kulongoski's term?

So what future former Blazer will be President of the USA?

Would he be known as President James or President Lebron?

I can't stand Kitzhaber. He already had his run. It's because of Kitzhaber and Kulongoski that our state is in the ruins that it currently is. Some of our best governors were Republicans. The state didn't go to shit until the Dems started moving here in droves and ran us into the ground. I'll bet Kitzhaber tries to get a sales tax for the 20th time or something like that. How many times do you have to say no to something before it goes away?

And it's not like Arnie's economic model really turned the state around, either.

Did they put the other 50 states into ruins too? Cause, I don't know if you've noticed, pretty much every state is in the same pickle these days.

This I agree with. We did in the past have some good moderate-to-liberal Republican governors. Unfortunately, that sort of republican doesn't exist anymore, at least not in Oregon.

Ha ha. Yeah, that must be it. Damned immigrants. Ship them all back to Liberalexico.

It depends on what it is. Some things (or posters) don't go away just because you want them to. That's just not how the world works.

NateBishop3 - I personally hope for change from Property Tax to Sales Tax transition in our future. Too many travelers and renters who contribute nothing to our tax base. I agree we don't want both - but I've come around to a new way of thinking about the "Sales Tax" swear word!!!!

That's not how the government works buddy. They don't trade one tax for another. They add a tax to the already existing ones.

If you vote something down 19 times, it should go away. That's why we vote.
