Lane county is burning up from the east....6.6 miles from eugene evacuations...no power out in the western part of the county where my property is....packing up the grandson, grandogs and taking hiway 58 up to Bend where it's clear for a few days until this clears....as it is I CAN'T BREATHE!!!!!
One of my former co-workers just had to evacuate his house in Molalla. Sky looked almost red in his picture.
The guy on KPTV (Mark Nelson I think) just compared the Eagel Creek fires (the one in the Gorge from 3 years ago I think). He said that one was a TOTAL of 50K acres. The Beachie Fire (the one near Detroit Lake) did that by itself....last night.
I went to school with that guy. There are entire towns that are burning to the ground. At 9 am this morning there was an estimated $2,000,000 worth of damage by the forest service. It'll be crazy to drive up highway 22 after all this is said and done to see the extent of everything that is gone.
Blue river and vida are gone. Burned to the ground as well as the historical covered bridges near the Leaburg hatchery very saddened by this. Marcola is burning up 6.6 miles from Eugene tonight
So crazy. I was staying in Black Butte for 5 days. Very minimal smoke while we were there. We left Monday around 4pm. Drove through Mill City and stopped at the Subway for a bite to eat. It was a little smoky, but it was pretty much still south of Detroit Lake in the Mt. Jefferson area. Crazy how those winds can just make the fire jump for miles. My dad witnessed something similar in the early 70’s in Bend at my grandparents property. As soon as he heard windstorm he was preaching it’s a recipe for disaster. I didn’t realize it would be this bad.
