Last night we had to put down our Red Doberman. I don't know if I have ever been more connected to a pet before. It's incredibly sad, but she lived to be 11 which is a very good age for a Doberman. I will definitely miss her.
I'm sorry, Zybot. Been there, done that. And my cat Orlando was diagnosed with severe congestive heart failure. I keep him going on meds, he's already visibly lost weight and I know he only has a few months left. Be satisfied you gave your friend a peaceful end.
When our friend's cat was a kitten, he liked Yuki. Now he just runs and hides on top of the cabinets. And, this is not my dog, but this looks exactly like him and I'm pretty sure this is how he'd "play" with the cat, so I guess he has good reason to run away.
Here is our dog Tahoe shedding during the Summer. I always feel like such a bad dog owner during the Summer when my dog looks homeless. 1 1/2 hours of brushing later.
The pictures you tried to link, are not actually jpg links. I had to copy the image, then upload them to imgur.
Man, so sorry for you. I know how much I love my pal. Take solice in the knowledg that she was able to enjoy her life in a home with people that returned her love. Many do not..find another special pal
Thank you both for your posts. I know you are both right. She was a lucky dog, and I was lucky to spend so much time with her. As pet owners, sometimes the hardest thing to do and when we show them the most love is when we help end their suffering. Apparently she had an undiagnosed advanced cancer that just became a huge issue for her in the last 48 hours.
My heartfelt condolences, Zybot. Losing any pet sucks, losing a long-lived pet sucks all the more. My brother's dog is twelve, and probably won't last the winter. He's got arthritis in both hips and in one shoulder, he's going blind, he can't hear very well anymore, but he'll still a happy, intelligent, and well-cared-for little bastard. I'll put pics of him up later.
My condolences. We lost 2 of our dogs this spring to old age. They were both 14. We got them within weeks of each other - and lost them within weeks. Non-pet people don't understand just how hard it is.
Sorry about your loss. I have a red doby too and she is the most affectionate and best dog I've ever had. She is 11 too, but is super active and acts like she's about 6. The vet says shes as healthy as could be and wouldn't be surprised if she lives another 5 years. Here's me and Blaze watching the Blazer game.
She likes getting petted so much that I've been thinking about hiring a mexican to stay home and pet her all day when I'm at work.
