So what do you think of the site Chip? Should I take by your non-reaction that you weren't impressed?
It doesn't matter. If you don't like it and don't want to post it here, it's ok, you can PM me or email me.
No, it's fine. The site looks good. I'm not thrilled about the email transactions, etc, but that is a condition under which I can (and have) function(ed). Not ideal based on the technology available today, and don?t forget that the real time/live F'up is a lot more fun if you ask me. Anyway, I haven't spent too much time at the site since the clock doesn't start until next weekend... The layout looks good, and the information is easily available? Not sure if the rules are all that clear, or if I missed them. As a Commissioner for many years I view the time before and immediately after the draft as key to heading off the problem of ?I don?t get its?. If I ask a question that is moronic, please allow me a little leeway. I?m not as bright or informed as some on this site? There are only a few questions I have now. 1. When are the lineups locked in weekly? Are they locked for the week when the first game starts? Can you change players around as long as they haven't started their game? 2. When do the transactions freeze for each week? Start of the first game? Thursday night? Saturday? Before a named player plays? 3. If I don't send in a roster for the current week, do I play the same roster as the week before? What if I have made a trade and don't have the same roster? 4. What is the time limit for correcting a roster imbalance? If I trade two RB's for a QB and two WR's, and both me and my trading partner (or either of us) fall below the minimum roster limits by position, how long do we have to correct the problem, or is the trade deemed invalid? What about the reduced or increased roster size??? When does that need to be addressed? 5. When will the official game rosters for the week be posted on the web site? How will we know what the official roster is, and when? 6. Are there any trading rules we need to know regarding season deadlines? Can I make a trade in week 15? 7. How will grievances be handled? A council? A quorum? A simple majority? Or my personal favorite? Commissioner discretion? That?s it for now. My son is flying in from Georgia and I have to head for the airport. Tomorrow is tied up with my money league draft and beer drinking (formed 1988). You asked. I hope you appreciate the questions. Peace.
I want to start by addressing the Real Time issue. I've done both and quite honestly I prefer this type of setting. It's more work, but it provides flexibility and a personalization that yahoo doesn't offer. There are also the benefits of customization that gives you the ability to do everything the way you want vs. doing it in the parameters of an online program. This is free because I pay the download fee for my local FFL. But if we did an online league similar to this, it would be at least $70. I am looking into this program online for next year and if I do it, I will convert our league to an online league. Now to address your questions. 1. Weekly lineups are due by 1 p.m. EST. No exceptions. You cannot change your lineup once the first games kickoff. The only exception is when there are Thursday or Saturday games. Then you can tun in just those guys playing in those games and the rest of your lineup can come Sunday. 2. The transactions freeze the same time lineups are due. You can request a player at 12:50 EST as well and if I'm not here to process the transaction, just make a note to start that player. If the player has been taken, then have a backup to start instead. 3. It's the same roster as the week before if you don't turn in a lineup. If you make a trade, then you're SOL. If you don't care enough to turn a roster in, why should one be picked for you? No program does that, so neither will we. Fantasy Football is about participation. It's key to a fun league. 4. Immediately. You must do waiver requests at the time of the trade to right your roster. 5. This one is a bit trickier because I work at 12 on most Sundays. The final rosters will be posted for sure on Sunday by 5ish. This is a trust issue. I will make sure that my lineup is submitted and posted before I leave so that I will be able to be held accountable. And trust me when I say, I'm not going to help anyone cheat. And if that's an issue, then I'm the wrong person for the job. 6. Trade deadline is usually week 10. So that is what we will hold to. IR is all season and free agent pickup ends with the trade deadline as well. 7. I will bring any grievance to the site and post it in the new topic forum. But if there's a problem resolving, I will most likely pull 2 other owners and as a triumverate, we will make the final decision. 8. Last, but not least, IR. It's pretty simple actually. If a player is listed as doubtful or out for the week, you may put him on IR and pick someone up to replace him. As soon as he is questionable or better, you must drop someone and remove the IR status. I will remind teams of this, so don't worry, the pressure is not solely on you. As for who you have to drop, it doesn't have to be the player you picked up. It can be anyone. Since injury is uncontrollable, you will be able to use IR all season, even in the playoffs. In all seriousness, thanks for asking Chip. I hope this clears some things up for everyone.
Thanks SF. I understand your desire to customize the features. That's the key to good FFL software no matter what you pay. As I wrote above, I can deal with it if I have to write you a snail-mail letter and send it Monday AM. I can see by your last comment that you understood why I was asking the questions... Trying to avoid the "It's not fair. I didn't know." situations... I've seen a lot of (attempted and successful) rule bending in my day, and have had to rule "foul" on more than one of them. Regarding #5... While not a requirement, it sure would be nice if opponents emailed their lineups to each other by game time. That's what we used to do in my league when we were using software installed locally to my computer. #7... Trimverate... Didn't think to throw that one in. #8... The status will be as shown on the official NFL injury reports? Those are released on a couple of times through the week. What is the league's official source for getting the injury reports, and what are the days we need to check it? Like I said, I've played in a few leagues before, and there is always someone who claims to not get it, or tries to find a way around... Thanks.
#5, the software works in a way that when you sumbit your lineup on the website, it is automatically emailed to your opponent. #8 I'm not sure which day it comes out... I want to say the final injury report is Friday....
