Favorite car I ever owned was a 1984 Porsche 944 (not turbo). Got it up to 145 MPH on highway 280 once. Big fat tires, tight turning radius. Could go around those 15 MPH cloverleafs/on ramps at 75 no sweat. Fit in small parking places, and got very good gas mileage, too.

And no, I didn't drive it fast all the time. :)

We had one of these before gas prices got crazy. It was a joy and decked out on the inside

I actually drove one of these (mine was brown tho) for several years. It was awesome, actually.

It had cruise control - a brick on the gas pedal.

I never got a ticket in it.

Top speed, maybe 65 MPH. Though it might hit 100 MPG after you push it off a cliff and before it hits the ground.

My next vehicle was one of these:

Yeah, but I drove those VWs in the 1990s. The first was 20 years old when I got it, and I paid about what it cost when it was new. The Vanagon was 14 years old when I got it.

Seems a bit funny driving those in the 90's.

    Why?

It's downright amazing how much stuff you can pack into either one of those. I drove the bus to Laguna Seca for the motorcycle races and camping a few times. Worked out great. The Vanagon was extremely comfortable.

The only thing I didn't like about them is the engine in the rear, nothing between you and an oncoming car, to speak of. You do sit really high in one of those, so seeing the road is really easy.

It always reminds me of this.

But I'm sure its extremely comfortable, especially if you're traveling somewhere.

That's the camper version. It has beds, a stove, a sink, etc. The top pops up and there's a bunk up there, too. It's extremely useful.

Just not a fan of German cars. My friends have driven VW's before and they always seem to crap out earlier than Honda's or Toyota's which I'm more inclined towards.

Don't get me wrong I like a lot of Audi's, BMW's, Mercedes looks, just don't like VW's based on past experiences

Hondas, Toyotas, and Nissans are usually very reliable.

VW makes parts for Audi and Porsche. My neighbor and I joked all the time about how they were able to stamp Porsche on a VW part and charge double for it.

The 924 was a VW Dasher (I believe) chassis with a different body on it. The 914 had the VW bus' pancake engine in it.

I still see buses and bugs on the road. Those cars are pushing 40 years old.

My view of Japanese cars (I own one) is that they're like christmas trees (dash boards), while the German ones have dials and gauges. I prefer the dials and gauges, though since the Prius is an electronic vehicle for the most part and heavy in electronics in all senses, the dash doesn't bother me.

Yeah, I currently co-own a 944 Turbo. Beautiful car. Although, I busted my back right tire when I clipped a curb.

I like the old Campervans. My Grandad had one and i have nothing but good memories of it.
But I'd rather have one of these.
