Yea, I pretty much agree with that even though I think he's lying when he said he was pressured into retirement. I still find his selfishness pretty disgusting: he's forcing his team to decide between one contending season and their foreseeable future, bad press and smart team decisions, and he's forcing fans to choose between their team and their favourite player. But the fact is, elite NFL players are always able to get their way like that so this isn't anything new.

That is trade leverage that they didn't expect to have at this point. Brett will hand them a list of teams that he is willing to play for, and the Pack will see what they can get for him. The team and the fans may not like seeing him play on a different team, but at least they can get something positive from the whole ordeal. Then both sides are satisfied, and we all move on from it.
If I were Rodgers, after my contract is up in '09, I'd leave. Maybe when Favre actually walks away for good Brohm or Flynn will be ready. I hope Matt & Brian like soap operas because thats what this is turning into.... stay tuned for tomorrow's exciting episode of As the Limburger rots
Favre has given a lot to the Packers but the Packers have given equally as much to Brett Favre. What 100 million or something? You can't cut him. Well you could but it'd be a stupid move. Favre wants to be a Viking. I heard that from Peter King on NFL Total Access or that's what he thinks. I agree with that and you let Favre go to Minnesota and then things look bad. Thompson hasn't said anything about Favre being a bad QB so obviously he rightfully thinks Favre is still a good QB. I think the Packers need to trade him but they can't be ridiculous. If a team is offering a 4th then just take it and move on. Obviously it depends on the team but Green Bay needs to control the situation. Keep him out of the NFC North and I think Tampa Bay is kind of a touchy place too but the Packers do at least go to Tampa so that might workout better than Favre coming into Green Bay. Then again you have a potential playoff meeting but a lot of things need to happen for that to occur. If I were running the organization, I would take Brett Favre but I'm not. I can't see Favre playing for the Packers again after all that has gone down in the past few weeks so I guess it's time to move on but I rather see the Packers control the situation.
If they want him, let him compete for the job....if they dont, release him or trade him....but Its not right if they dont want him and they dont want anyone else to have him....

Even if they did, I wouldn't worry about it until it actually happens. There are six teams that will qualify for the postseason, and the two teams may never even see each other anyway based on where they are seeded. I think Tampa is the best case scenario for this whole thing to blow away. Favre gets to play for a contender, and the Pack doesn't have to play him twice in the regular season against a division rival.
Absolutly, if he wants to start (and has all the abilities to at a very high level) and the Packers move on, let him. He has given alot to the team the least they can do is let him go if they don't want him. So what if he signs with the Vikings, he'll be there 1 maybe two seasons and by then Rogers will be fully acclimated to the starting roll. The Packer's are still playing in a weak Division and can still push for the Playoffs. They should just part ways now so both parties can save face (however much they have left, that is...lol)
Favre doesn't have to play for the Packers, but keeping him from playing at all is pretty mean imo. Just be a decent organization, and trade him to some team where he can at least be a starter. If you don't want him to stay in the Division/Conference, that can be addressed as well. I'm not a huge Favre fan either.

I'm glad things turned out the way they did, but I don't recommend Kobe's behavior during the offseason As for Brett, I'm just sick and tired of hearing about him "playing his last game at Lambeau Field" every season. He called it quits, he made his emotional retirement press conference and everything, maybe at least try staying retired for one season? The Packers came into the offseason with intentions that Brett was retired, they worked with Aaron Rodgers in the offseason in hopes of him being a starter next season. It seems like Brett came out nowhere and just popped in and said, I want to play again. Don't get me wrong, I respect everything he's done, but it's not that easy. He has to take into factor that the team was preparing the entire offseason for a season without him. He's also essentially screwing over Aaron Rodgers in way, who is in his last year of his contract. I think he kind of wishes to see the field in his contract year
I'm in no way a Favre fan (but that will change if the Vikings get him...lol). But he's a grown ass man who has given alot to the game. Why is it such a big deal that he changes his mind...so what...he has every right to want to play. When you have played this long and can still play at the level he can it's just wrong to deny him an opportunity to play. This happens all the time...Hell, Strahan was just doing the past 2-3 years...but because he's a good funny interview and flashes smiles, he doesn't get beat up like this...if your not gonna let him start....let him go. And after all he's done for the organization let him go to situation that he can go out on a good note, since you don't want him to do it with them.

There's no point in that, let the guy at least start for a sad AFC team (etc.).

After last nights interview I think it's clear he doesn't want to compete. He's said give me my helmet or give me my release and then when asked about competing he asked Why. I think they need to trade him. Seems like Tampa Bay is the place everyone is talking about so that might very well occur.
